Stop calling yourself a bandit

Recommended Posts

Seriously, to all of you people out there who kill people for the hell of it, if you're going to do that, at least stop calling yourself a bandit.

bandit.png

Please tell me where in that it says that a bandit is someone who kills people? An outlaw or gangster does not directly mean that they kill people. Gangs have gang wars, meaning they go against other groups of people. One person on a hill by Cherno is not a gangster. Gangs also form organized raids, something also rarely seen by these snipers around big loot spawns. Why not take your buddies, and have a few people provide overwatch, and send in three or four people to raid the barracks? That is an organized raid. Definition 3. "One who cheats or exploits others." Camping with an AS50 is not cheating someone out of their stuff. Guns are not con artists. Definition one. "A robber, especially one who robs at gunpoint."

So please, if you're going to kill people, at least stop calling yourself a bandit. Call yourself a killer. Call yourself a murderer, I really don't care. But I'm sick of people posting things that say "I am a bandit" or "Bandits like me".

Enough. The only person who is clearly a bandit is AceBane. As for the others who rob, good for you. I can't identify you, but for all the killers who call yourself bandits, No. You're wrong. Call yourself something else.

Make up a name for all I care. Feel free to throw in any suggestions below. You are not a bandit.

edit: How about Assassin? Cutthroat? Soldier? (I like this one; Survivors and Soldiers)

Its the term used in Day Z, its the term officially known for "being pvp oriented"

A whole ton of words in the virtual world, has no real definition, or meaning in real life. Or real life word has a different meaning in the virtual world, stop being so butthurt over the phrase that was picked in this particular circumstance.

I kill people in Day Z, i am, a bandit.

Meh, I don't really care. But bandits are ones who hunt down good geared people or kill for supplies. People who rob are robbers, people who started the KOS thing are the worthless COD people who joined up down the road because of RoosterTeeth and other popular gaming channels. People who hacker are hackers and are equally worthless human beings. But hey, say what YOU want, but you probably have a shit storm coming your way.

It's become part of the etymology of the game.

It should never have been. Even at inception, it was used to refer to people who killed other players and had nothing to do with taking things.

But just like we have hatchets that are really axes, fireplaces that are fire rings and (in the data base), satchel charges that are pipe bombs, the mod just has some idiosyncratic bits floating around.

This is just the topmost example.

Plus, calling oneself a murderer, though it be digital and far from reality, isn't so palatable.

wouldnt it be the second point then

Gangsters form groups, and steal things from other gangs. Gang wars. Yes, killing does dip into the "gang" category, but indirectly. Some lone person on a hill by Cherno isn't a gang. That's a *whatever you want to call these kind of people*

ban·dit audio.gif/ˈbændət/ noun

plural ban·dits

[count] : a criminal who attacks and steals from travelers and who is often a member of a group of criminals

You are misunderstanding the term bandit. Robbers, plunderers, and etc are included. Also the fact that bandits canbe in groups. Groups can work in groups for taking loot from their victims and etc.

Stop telling us what to do and maybe we'll stop killing you.

Actually, that won't happen.

I'm prepared for that shitstorm, but not all people who came from RoosterTeeth's "This is...DayZ" are like that. In fact, I came from that video. I enjoy this game. I am not a bandit, correct term or not. But, it's just a playstyle.

We did, it was bandit. Sorry you missed the memo.

It was a lazily thrown around term for PKers. Same as someone mentioned before; since when are satchel charges "pipe bombs"? There are plenty of incorrectly used terms around here.

So I guess I would be a warlord?

Lots of people + my command + war = warlord?

Is that right? I just wanted to be known as O'Doyle. Or Doyle works too.

Silly labels. Why are we talking about this again?

Holy fuck, it's a game. Stop analyzing words in a dictionary just because it doesn't fit the definition EXACTLY. What a dumb thread.

well, there are two types of bandits:

RP bandits: living up to the word "bandit" and killing or threatening to kill for loot

DayZ normal bandit: theres someone, shoot him! hurdurr (so, basically everyone)

also, bandit doesnt mean you're pvp oriented, EVERYONE is pvp oriented, bandit means you are the one shooting first, asking questions later

i am a survivor, but not a hello-kitty one

if i see a player and think he will shoot me, i put a bullet between his eyes without hesitation

if i dont think he will kill me right away, i try to talk to him

and just because i sometimes shoot people out of caution or bad feeling doesn't mean i am a bandit

i dont understand what "shooting someone out of fun and not looting him" has to do with banditry, but the word bandit describes just that in the dayZ community, just like everyone knows what someone means saying "hacker" and some people are pussys about the definition of the word

Or like how some think that scripting = hacking, even though there are plenty of scripts that are not cheats

Suggesting that bandits can't also kill for the hell of it, alongside stealing from the dead

I over watch for my other bandit friends, or pointman, depending.

We kill everyone we see, and loot them all.

I murder for the sake of banditry.

And I don't care about silly attempts to define exactly what I am.

I play the game I find the most fun, and if that involves murdering everyone, I'm sure as hell going to do it.

I don't remember there being rules for this game.

I hope humanity comes back to the debug monitor.

Mine will be -50K+ easy.

Bragging rights, yo.
