Returning to game- Update Question

I'm coming back after not playing since June and want to update to the new version of the game.

Do you have to to use the 6 Updater tool now?

I installed it and noticed that all the server pings were 9999. I preferred the old server screen.

So, I downloaded the latest files and copied and pasted them into the addons folder of my DayZ folder within the Steam folder. When I log into the game it says DayZ 1.7.2.4 in the bottom corner.

When I try to get on a server, it says BattleEye failed initialization.

I tried the "Reinstall BattleEye Anti-Cheat" option from the window when you press play on the game and it gives me an error "MISSING STRING".

So, my questions are:

Can you still play the game from the old server select screen and not use the 6 Updater Tool?

If so, how do I get BattleEye reinstalled or what do I need to do to fix that "MISSING STRING" error?

Go to the Battleye website and download the needed files from their site. It'll fix the Battleye issue.

Frankly, you picked a very bad time to "return to the game."

This is the zenith of "the hacking phenomenon" in DayZ with almost every server experiencing mass teleporting and mass script-kills.

You should wait another month and then come back to the game after the next BattleEye update is released.

Wow, um things look and sound fun now.lol

I stopped playing right before the update that let you break line of sight with zombies and gave them super hearing. I guess that you don't spawn with the Makarov anymore either? And you can kill things with the hatchet now. And crowbars and sleeping bags are new additions.

1. Update to 1.7.2.4 by downloading the torrent at http://cdn.armafiles.info/

2. Update to ArmA 2 beta patch 95417 at http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

DO NOT UPDATE TO 95660, IT IS BROKEN.

3. Update to the latest BattlEye version by downloading the Client & Server files here(make sure you download for ArmA 2 v1.62): http://www.battleye.com/download.html

Replacing the files

1. In your DayZ/Addons folder, delete all files and move the new 1.7.2.4 files in there.

2. Run the beta patch installer. Rename your ArmA 2 OA executable backup_.exe, copy the beta executable from ./Expansion/beta to main game folder.

3. Replace both Client and Server BattlEye files in ./Expansion/BattlEye and also replace the Client file at %HOMEPATH%/AppData/Local/ArmA 2 OA/BattlEye.

Run ArmA 2 CO with the launch parameters (basic compilation):

-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ;ca -world=Chernarus

Do you use Steam? Then right click on ArmA 2 OA and select properties. Open Advanced launch options and paste the parameters in the box.

Baaad time to come back. A much needed update is already a week late resulting in massive graphical glitches and horrible loading times. Hackers are running rampant.
