Allow the settling of towns

This is a cool idea but there is the problem with loot spawn and Zombie spawn.

You could in theory have it where if you do take over a town by returning certain facilities back on- and keep them maintained since all of them should have a timer where you will then need to go fix/ or keep power running. In this case the Zombies would spawn in large numbers around/ circling the town. This will make it hard those who wish to get in or out of the town without aggro a zombie. This will make players wish to make sure there are barbwire to help in protection. If a town is settled or matches the value of settled then the loot should be less. By having the loot now giving you less items that can be shared means you still have to go out and hunt or look for items to continue the survival of you and others. This could also lead to who should get the spawned Beans if only one spawns and there are 4 of you- plus spawn times would be longer. This could lead to players killing each other for Beans or finding ways to be civil and give it to the person who needs it or has rights to it.

The other major factor is...What is the DayZ Zombie Virus? How does affect the world outside of Zombies?

But this is a great topic and i would not be surprised there will be some future system that touches or plays with this idea.

Personally I'd say loot in that town shouldn't spawn at all. Then the group is forced to split, those to defend, those to forage. What you bring with you is what the town has.

Imagine that there are 10 people, they are all hungry, but hey wait a minute that guy over there seems fine... turns out he's been hoarding food. What do the other players do? Do they turn on him? Do they kick him out? Rob him, wound him, not help him if zombies attack, force him to do all the work, etc

I agree that loot and zombies should not spawn in a town.

All you can do in towns would be transfer goods of one type to another.

Seeds + Miracle grow become vegetables. #of veg spawned is random to add unknown variable.

Rope + Bucket allow you to use the wells. Rope "snaps" after x amount of water drawn out.

Fuel cans allow you to power on the town, granting access to street lighting, heating system and perhaps powering on doors/gates that the zeds will have trouble getting past. Holes in the town can be covered by barb wire kits.

Now, no one will currently decide to "settle" a town unless they bring sufficient ammo, seeds, rope, fuel and defences. So this will be a prepared and thought out effort to hold a town.

Thinking along the same lines as the tent system where your items will only be available on that server, you could have a "vault" in a town. That only becomes usable for storing loot when the town is powered on. The ambient lights make the town easier to see on a pitch black night and combined with the noise from the Generator will attract zombies from a wide area.

It will also attract other players who may want to help you, kill you, or steal from you so it will be difficult to maintain without the following...

A good group of trusted people. (Spies and backstabbers anyone?)

A good defence to channel zombies down certain roads where you can best kill them and LOTS of ammo. Bandits will no doubt try to pull zombies towards your town, and ones with a tool kit can sabotage the defences if you dont see and shoot them.

A high supply of seeds, fuel and rope so you can continue to gain food/water/heat, enough for everyone with you.

Lots of trade with other players. You need them to provide ammo/seed/fuel in exchange for protection in the night, food/water and heat.

I would have alot of fun trying to reclaim and hold a town, I would also have much fun trying to sabotage other towns.
