How do I get it to work? I am pressing the button and I see the little Steam microphone icon pop on my screen but no one seems to be able to hear me in- game. I'm in direct channel and people are close enough as obviously I can hear them, so that's not the problem.

Maybe they dont wanna respond. Remember that not everyone in game can be trusted.

No, because I've resorted to typing back and forth when these people VOIP me first.

Try testing your mic settings within the Arma menu.
