Shout / Talk / Whisper chat

Recommended Posts

When the global chat will be removed, it would be interesting to have different possible direct chats with different reach radius and maybe appearance. So, for example, you're sneaking with yorur buddy to the town and you see another survivor - you WHISPER with your buddy what to do (your buddy hears you, the other survivor does not). You decide to SHOUT to the other survivor (everyone in the place, zombies and even a bandit hiding on the other side of the town in the wood hears you). When running in relatively secure surroundings you can TALK to eachother, so you still hear eachother when there is some distance between you. Or you can SHOUT for help, hoping for someone to hear you, but risking that it will be bandits or zombies. etc. etc.

Now, how could it be realised? From technical point, I don't know. I see two possibilities - one chat channel with different possibilities (eg. start your chat with "\" for SHOUT "another key" for WHISPER, etc. Or separate channels for SHOUT, WHISPER, TALK, with different colours - SHOUT most visible etc.

What do you think?

Since beta patch removed global/side chat and only direct is possible option, we definitely need another types of chat with different radius. At least "Shout" would be great to talk with others at safe distance. Direct range is too short to ask if player if he is friendly or not, you probably end up killed before you finnish the sentence.

Also some kind of radios, transmitters, walkie-talkies would be nice addition into item colection. These devices could be used for communication at longer distance (maybe across whole map or only for cuple miles depending on device used). Having these device equipped would allow using/seeing others types of chat channel.
