Identification + Global Chat.

Recommended Posts

This has possibly been suggested already, but I made a quick search and didn't find anything like this.

One of the big complaints on the forums right now is the amount of KOS in the game. From what I can tell from the general discussions forum, the majority of players KOS because they are scared of being KOS'd themselves. Currently, you can yell friendly in VOIP, however, many confrontations occur out of the VOIP range. There are several ways we could possibly fix this.

1. Nametags. Of course you guys don't like them, but they serve for easy identification. Of course, these are basically useless for identification on servers without global chat because

Suggestion: Have nametags only pop up when you place your cursor on the player for, say, 5 seconds without break. This will completely eliminate sweeping to find players in the area, while allowing quick identification of a player.

2. Global Chat. Global chat is pretty cool. Not only does it give you something to read while traveling long distances, it can also be used to communicate when in confrontations further then 100m. Combined with nametags, you can quickly ID your opponents and learn if they're friendly or not without danger (considering you see them and they don't see you.) Of course, there should be a player option to turn global chat on/off.

This combination should allow more survivors to act friendly without the risk of others KOS, while still allowing bandits to do what they do with no punishment.

Once again, sorry if this has already been suggested.

1. That's exactly why we don't like them as they identify you, there shouldn't be a magical name tag popping up when you scan over the treeline you should have to rely on your eyes to spot a potential shooter. I realize this is a potential fix to KOS, but I don't think this is the fix that should happen.

2. There is global chat on certain servers, stop suggesting it.
