Game Freezes, Requires Hard Computer Reset. Ambient Sounds Continue Working

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem with Day Z that started just today. A few minutes after loading into the game, my screen will randomly freeze but sounds will continue. The game becomes totally unresponsive and will not allow Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+Del or anything else other than just a hard computer reset. The problem has happened to be 5+ times in a row. A video of this error can be seen below.

This is not any type of stress or hardware issue that I know of, as my computer can run much more intense games at max settings. The problem seems to happen exactly the same to both lower end and high end PCs from what I can tell.

Any ideas on this or any potential fixes?

This happens to me sometimes as well, along with the executable sometimes having a more traditional "send report" type crash (usually when I find some rare loot, unfortunately)

In fact, I'd say I have about a 50% chance of having some kind of lock up or program crash when I am at a helicopter crash site in game.

Hows the condition of the HDD?

Maybe a defrag could help?

Fresh install of Windows 7 with only Steam and Dayz installed. My Windows 7 install is actually on an SSD with Steam and Dayz being on the HDD. I was playing on this setup last night hours with no issues.

I was using Dayz Commander to connect to the server. I'll try to launch from Six and close after connected and see if that works.

Update - Problem still occurred. I launched into a server I've used successfully in the past, closed Six launcher after connection and was able to play for ~60 seconds before the exact same problem happened. Seems that the launcher isn't part of the problem.

So...good try...

Could you try to run the game windowed once?.....Difference?

After this we only have temperature left before looking at the install again.....hows your (computer) temperature? Monitor the temp when playing

^ Similar issue as OP, can play for about 1-10mins, then Arma2/CO or DayZ locks the PC up - blackscreen, no alt+tab, or lined screen with audio locked up gargle. Trying windowed mode but

doubt that will be the issue after trying complete Win7 reinstall etc as well.....
