Buying Arma 2 CO on GamersGate?

So i tried buying Arma 2 CO on steam but it doesn't work. I get an unexpected error and they said that the purchase was not completed. So now i'm looking for an alternative way to purchase this. I went to Arma 2.com and they were selling it on GamersGate aswell.

Will i still be able to play with steam people if i bought the game from gamersgate?

(im also quite new to steam so this might be a stupid question)

You can buy the game anywhere and play with players online.
