Shag 90 Posted May 25, 2012 I have no issues finding food and drink around the map. I can even go on a bean bender in an effort to gain blood. I don't like this mechanic. Food should not replenish blood at all. Instead, we should replenish blood gradually over time (we are humans and this is what we do), but when replensihing we burn food and water quickly (double rate?)When injured, we should be forced to try and find extra food/drink which would be difficult with blurred vision and a decrease in spawn rates. I think this would lead to some good game mechanics. You're a staunch moralistic player, never murdered anyone... but you have been alive for 24 hours and have some of the best gear you have ever had. You drop below 5000 blood and can't find food quick enough to keep going. Then another player runs down the road below you...I have no issues having enough soda that I have yet to need to fill my canteen - I feel a whole aspect of my harsh fight for survival is missing. I want that tin of beans to be worth more than your new best friends life?!?@!It is also too hard to get blood levels back without a transfusion. Hopefully this change will fix these two issues in one go, while removing some unrealsitic game constructs.
cal (DayZ) 1 Posted May 25, 2012 Do not agree....Also it is not too hard to get blood levels back with out a transfusion - you just have to go hunting and for that you need to find a hunting knife, matches, and wood. Which in order to find you must be travel but first, you must stay alive and that means defending yourself. Load up on ammo and you will not have all that room for your cans of beans. Shag 90 Posted May 25, 2012 I rarely carry more than one tin, I just eat them as I find them.At the moment I am unconcerned about starving/dehydration. A large sector of survival mechanic going begging.
START 2 Posted May 25, 2012 Like it. In a real post apocalypse scenario there woudnt be so much food and coke lying around. You would need to hunt much more and looking around for walls to refill your canteen, which would force player to go more inland, which is great. But i have to disagree on the "replenish blood over time". I think it is fine as it is right now, but since its an alpha why not try.
Sgt.Spam 42 Posted May 25, 2012 OP: Try logging out and surviving in the forest. You'll soon realize that your food supplies will run out fairly quickly and you'll be glad when you run across that next can of beans.
Shag 90 Posted May 25, 2012 OP: Try logging out and surviving in the forest. You'll soon realize that your food supplies will run out fairly quickly and you'll be glad when you run across that next can of beans.I like to avoid unnatural play restrictions to get the most out of an implemented feature. The supermarkets should be a real hotbed of tension, as is true of many zombie appoc films/series. Food should be hotly contested as airfields. Why are no clans offering to secure supermarkets in the same way as airfields... cos there is too much food.Has anybody ever refilled their canteen regularly? Crazy Cajun 0 Posted May 25, 2012 I rarely carry more than one tin' date=' I just eat them as I find them.At the moment I am unconcerned about starving/dehydration. A large sector of survival mechanic going begging.[/quote']This is exactly how I feel. Food and water is rarely a concern for players. The game feels like it's more based around getting cool gear and not dying in the process; more so than actually surviving. I think they need to greatly increase the importance of finding food and water, preferably by making time pass a lot quicker in-game than it currently does. This would allow all servers to be dynamic in regards to day/night cycles as well and will prevent server hopping to a day time server.
Shag 90 Posted May 25, 2012 No time passing is another issue and i think is fine as is. Why make time go quicker when u could just reduce spawn speed/locations for food and drink and have the same effect. If you have one beans and one soda when you log out you're pretty safe. Relog - eat/drink - find next can/soda in nearest low value spawn point...
Sgt.Spam 42 Posted May 25, 2012 Has anybody ever refilled their canteen regularly?Actually, yes. I keep my tent close to a lake for this reason.

If things moved faster then hunger and thirst would occur more rapidly making water and food more valuable; as it should be in a game about survival. This would also help the night/day cycles and the server hopping to find a daytime server, but that's another issue.
Bal Sofs Tihl 7 Posted May 25, 2012 In some thread there was a suggestion that you only replenish blood when you are totally full up and in the green on both food and water. I like that idea.Of course, the rate at which you can starve to death in this game is probably the most unrealistic thing about it, including the zombies. So, if everyone is so set on the realistic flow of time, that should probably get changed. Unless we are all infected with the virus, but a small percentage of the population gets turned into Joey Chestnut instead of zombies.
