How to boost server performance

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

the title is self-explaining.

We got a dedicated machine with a 100mbit bandwith flat. It has a i7 2600 Quad Core CPU which is currently at 3,4 GhZ. It also has 2 TB of HDD and 16 GB RAM.

I would say: "No big deal to handle a DayZ server". The problem: If there are more than 30 players on the server, the FPS drastically drop to 5-12 FPS which is quite low for that ammount of hardware - I guess?!

So how do you guys run your DayZ servers, how to you boost your performance? Any tips? I already got regularcheck on = ""; but that doesnt help as much as expected.

What to do?! Please help!

Cheers!

Dont state too much on what #monitor 5 gives you in game. I'm running 3 servers on an xeon e3-1230 with 16 gigs on ram on an 120 GB SSD and each server gives me around 10 fps. the only real thing you'll get with low FPS on the server side is desynch with ingame time and server clock, and if you restart evey 6 hours as recommended by DayZ staff it wont be a problem.

The point is not that I dont know how much servers to run. The point is: I find it extremely funny, that this kind of hardware produces only 10 fps at 40 players. I mean WTF?! Is there any possibility to use ressources more efficently?

Hi Y0shi,

As long as it is above 2, there is no reason to worry. Server FPS is completely different than client FPS and is NOT linear in relation to how many clients have joined.

So what you say is that the server fps have no influence on the clients FPS? We restart our servers every 4 hours to ensure maximum gaming pleasure... and still after 4 hours the game seems to get a bit more laggy.

What are your parameters to start the server? Especially cpuCount and exThreads?

Thanks for the nice support guys ! :)
