Gun fires randomly

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it is a 'feature' or not, but my gun fires randomly. At first I thought that maybe, just maybe, it was because I was running too much and it was there to simulate nervous reactions...but then I was walking through a town and all of a sudden it fires, attracting a horde. In a separate instance I had drawn the attention of a bandit, successfully eluded him, and then my gun fires twice in about two minutes.

So is this a feature, bug, or am I the only one who experiences this? I have been searching for an answer last night and can't find anything.

Nothing wrong with the mouse.

Is there a workaround? I unequip it?

Equip your main weapon and double tap left CTRL. This will make you lower your gun. If you by mistake press fire, then you will only raise your weapon and avoid the damage it might have caused. :P

Ok. I guess then the only way to stop this is to stay alive long enough to find another weapon. Thanks.

If your mouse isn't broken, could it be sitting next to a wireless device (even if the mouse is wired)?

Only time I've ever seen issues like that in any game was from leaving my cell phone next to my mouse and keyboard.

It's not the weapon. It comes from your computer. There must be something emulating the left click of your mouse (a trackpad or something else), or if you do many alt+tab, it will do this too sometimes.

yep only time I've experienced this is when I alt-tab and get message (i.e. FRAPS telling me out of disk space yet again lol). Other than it never has happened to me.

I'm using a razer bluetooth mouse with the cord attached and bluetooth turned off. My router is wireless, but I connect through ethernet cable. My phone is placed elsewhere. But still...you never know.

Well, over the weekend I tried a few different things. I took the router off the desk and moved it far from the mouse. I even turned the wireless function of my laptop off. The problem still occurred.

I was playing last night and everybody was experiencing quite a bit of the recent FPS drop- and several other people mentioned that their guns were going off. I sometimes have it happen 2-3 times per minute. I have been working around it by equipping a main, even if I have no ammo for it, and putting it away. But yes, it simply raises it- which can be problematic if being chased but is otherwise just a nuisance. I also make sure not to alt-tab during play, but it made no difference. I even tried playing in window, which had no impact.

I have logged on to a few servers where the game ran quite smoothly and the problem ceased to exist for as long as the smoothness lasted. After a while, the game got choppy and my FPS fell gradually to about 5-10fps (from ~40 when I logged on) and my gun started firing itself. Luckily I was high in the mountains and it didn't make a big scene or anything. Actually, come to think of it, I forgot to do a control test where I unplugged the mouse and just ran around with my pistol out, navigating clumsily with my trackpad. I'll try that next time I play. But knowing that its happening to others under similar circumstances makes me think it's something else.

So, with that in mind, I'm left believing that the problem is related to (if not caused by) the framerate drop. I have even had my character stop and do other things, like stop and go into a crouch, or stop and stand up straight. When the FPS drop is in effect, everything is all jacked up it seems. The inventory doesn't work quite right (relative to its regular function) and input is lagged as well.

I'm computer literate but I don't know many details about conflicts and codes and techno jibber jabber...could the erroneous left-click emulation be linked to the FPS problem?

I've never heard of FPS having anything to do with the things you are talking about. Even in the 1.5.8 patch with the memory leak that caused me to go from 60 fps to 8 fps never once did my weapon fire or did I change stances. [also I use dual monitors and alt-tab rather frequently]

So I will leave you with this completely non-helpful words of wisdom: Your shits all fucked up!

[also goto the control panel and check your "ease of access" section, make sure nothing is set up to emulate mouseclicks]
