Can't pick up backpack?

As the tittle says, I am unable to pick up any new backpacks I find? I can't even pick up my starter one i droped?

Is there any gear under or near the back pack? If so, pick any gear up and try to move it away, it should be available to pick up again.

I've been having the exact same issue. I can move out into the middle of nowhere, drop my pack, and the only option I have when I hover my cursor over it is to "Open ... Pack"

Now... I don't have a pack at all. I'm not sure how to overcome this one.
