Direct Communication NOT WORKING?!? I'm not the only one with this problem.

Recommended Posts

Amongst my group and I, several of us are no longer able to be heard in-game via direct communication (voice over mic). Also, we're not noobs... We set our mic to be the "default recording device" and "default communication device" in the playback/recording devices manager. We've used direct communication in DayZ before without any problems.

This is what I've discovered:

- I can hear other players on direct communication but they can't hear me.

- BEFORE: when I would press caps lock to transmit (over direct communication): My character's mouth would ONLY move to the sound of my voice.

- NOW: when I press caps lock to transmit (over direct communication): My character's mouth continually moves weather or not I'm actually speaking in real life.

- Here's the really strange thing: my friends CAN hear me in Group Channel but ONLY while we're in the lobby (player list screen prior to loading into the game)... So clearly my mic is working and is being detected by ArmA 2.... It just doesn't work once loaded into the game

As far as troubleshooting, I've:

- Tested on multiple servers (none seem to work).

- Restarted Steam.

- Restarted CPU.

- Verified integrity of game cache via Steam

- Defragment cache files via Steam

- Reinstalled latest beta (Build_OA_95417)

- Completely uninstalled ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead

- Done an entirely fresh reinstall of EVERYTHING

And.... Direct Communication still isn't working.

Suggestions?

Those of you that have been playing DayZ by yourselves, consider this:

YOU may very well have this SAME problem and have literally no way to verify if your mic is transmitting to other players in-game.

Tried allowing Arma 2 and everything related to arma 2 through your firewall?

False. Go into Configuration Panel > Sound > Recording, there you have all the recording devices (microphones) connected to your PC.

To verify if one does work, just blow on your mic and see if the green level bar at the right of the targeted device moves, if yes, it is well connected.

Now to verify the quality of the mic, right click on the device and select properties, you will see four tabs, click on the second one which is called "listen", and check "listen this device", now hit apply or ok and you'll h ear you microphone, there should be an echo, that's normal.

If the quality is okay for you, go back on properties and uncheck "listen this device".

Clearly you didn't read the first post... *le sigh*

We're trying to help. If you dick about then we won't help you.

Not being a dick. But, his post was about as helpful as calling Indian tech support only to have them tell you to check if your computer is plugged in.

Well sometimes it can be the case (not the computer plug in bit, but the bit about if your mic is actually working properly or not)

Have you tried allowing Arma 2 through your firewall?

Firewall has never been an issue before and I wouldn't expect it to be. It just (randomly?) stopped working. My mic works over Group Channel while I'm in the lobby, so the firewall isn't blocking it.

So you're sure your mic isn't working and people just aren't being the usual KoS? (I read, this is sarcasm)

It sounds like a recent patch may have caused this issue. Try joining a vanilla ArmA2 server and seeing if Direct Communication works there. If it does, but not in DayZ, it's a bug and it won't get fixed for a while cause everyone's screaming about "this is alpha! you don't report bugs in alpha because it's perfect!"

I have also seen direct comms fail to send text to other players. It's rather bullshity since it is the only in game way to communicate. Not helpful I know... But its atleast an indication that its not your mics fault.
