Let's talk Alt-F4 and the lost "First Contact Feeling"

Recommended Posts

EDIT : I just saw a post about a survey to see if people would like to have a delay before logging out, preventing Alt-F4, this ain't the solution, this can be by-passed with unplugging internet, my ethernet plug is 30cm from my hand, come on. We need to bring back the cooperation and the communication in the game.

I play this game since it gained a tiny bit of popularity, you know when at the time we were spawning with a Makarov (early May), when you could try to talk with people without 9/10 of them running away being afraid of getting killed, when you could encounter a group of players in the wild and try to cooperate with them, you know all this "first contact" feeling that made everything so intense and emotional... Well no need the say, THE POPULARITY CHANGED ALL THIS SHIT !! It was good to think human, to have in mind that you had 50% chance to die, 50% to be accepted.

Since june, many players started to adopt the kill on sight technique, and now we are just afraid to lose our gear, cause we know there won't be any discussion, there will be bullet flying in the air no matter what.

Sooooo, I'm bitching about people bitching about Atl-F4 (*insert Xzibit image here*), since july, when I leave Cherno with good starting gear, head to north to end my route with NVGs, Bizon/M4A1 SD, GPS and Coyote Backpack, I don't want to lose everything just because a god damn dude can't speak through his mic and think human for some minutes. And even if I accept the need for him to kill me anyway, well If the guy hit me in one shot, he deserves to have my gear (yesterday a dude took my FN FAL AN/PVS-4, I'm happy for him, good shot good reward), but when the dude can't even aim like a pro through an open field, you hear the bullet coming from here to there, Alt F4 like a fucking coward but a coward with his gear.

Before, we took the time to think about killing the guy or not, thinking about what he did to deserve such an end, thinking about his journey and stuff, that's what made the game so fucking good, now what, "other player > enemy > secure yourself > kill kill kill" ... That's sad.

We need to think of a gameplay mechanic that would make the "first contact shit" come back, without a solution, I'll start to be afraid for the community.

Why complain about gearing up again. How long on average does it take you to gear? This game is about Survival. and if you can't survive you don't need to be playing this game . You're playing a game with PVP elements in it. Learn to accept it.. Not once when i've been shot at have I taken your route. I run and try to escape.

I'm no genius and I only read the first paragraph, also my scripting and coding skills are basic...

But it wouldn't be hard to connect the alt+f4 and timing out timers... both could leave the character in game for 30seconds..

This game isn't ready yet for Alt+F4 delay, timer, etc. Alt+F4 is pretty much the only defense a legitimate player has against hackers.

I feel for you man. And that is why I've stopped playing. Yes, I've killed many people myself and shot first because, unfortunately this is the only way to have fun through DayZ. Trying to talk to a stranger now is just going to equal death. I remember too when random survivors cooperated. I fear XXI that the community has gone to shit.....for now.

What would be awesome is a few safe NPC guarded spawn zones... you know, like megaton in fallout 3... in fallout you can go apeshit crazy in town and the NPC's will hunt you down, maybe have it similar, or just have a law that must be followed, and no shooting in town permitted.

the perfect spot for one of these newb towns would be smack dab inbetween cherno and elektro, like by Cap Golova. This way newbies can venture out to elektro or cherno on quests the NPC's send them on, players can meet up and trade items etc.

Hell you could even have NPC sentries that roam the highways and go into cherno/elektro then turn around and come back, they could kill any zombies in their path, and if they see a player attack another player they could step in too. Newbies on quests or needing gear could tag along with these sentries and follow them into the city and then split away into the city to get what they need and hopefully get back before the sentries turn around and leave them alone in the city.

a central hub is definitely something missing in the game, humans have strength in numbers and if a zombie apocalypse happened you could guarantee that these hubs would be formed eventually.

To clarify, my long winded reply was for that "first contact" feeling, a place for players to interact without being jack moved by some dick weed with a makarov

Oh I'm not my dear friend, all my death led to a better gear and another experience, this game is good about that. I'm complaining about the fact that people don't think about all the effort a player, an actual human beign behind a keyboard, did.

Word.

That's an interesting idea but we're talking about a zombie survival, which means no rules, complete chaos, we don't want no society, we are survivors here and there on many servers, the biggest we can do is tiny camp here and there. And it's a good thing that thos camps can also be raided, it's complete chaos, no rules, we need to keep it that way IMO.

You guys should play Fallout 3, if you want to and have the gear/armor you can go buck nutty and take out the majority of these "safe zones" they are places where you can stop in your travels to gear up. No one is saying you even have to use the "safe zone" but as the game grows and more people play there will be more and more coastal bitch slappings, on brand new players or vets that messed up and got whacked.

Central "Safe Zones" are bound to happen, look at season 3 of the walking dead.... the trailer shows there is some big built up city, they take over a prison to use as a strong hold... shit like this needs to happen eventually.

Zombies should also migrate, the woods being a safe zone from zombies is kinda unrealistic imho.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. NO, JUST NO. DEAR GOD NO. TO ANY OF THOSE SUGGESTIONS. THIS IS DAYZ. NOT AN MMORPG WHERE WE NEED ELITE GUARDS PROTECTING PEOPLE. OMG, NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

The caps were needed. I think that bit with Michael Scott/The Office would be great, but I'm too lazy to dig up the link.

Yeah, and they aren't safe in that city either. Read the comic books.
