Arma and Day Z Stall, yet I get great FPS

Recommended Posts

Which Version of the game: Steam bundle of Arma 2 and OA

Arma 2 OA Beta Patch: The newest as of today, 95417

Launching the game: I use Six Updater/Launcher

PC Specs:

Dual Core clocked at 3.4GHz

4 Gigs of DDR2 ram

NVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti

Windows 7 64-bit

Hokay, now that that is all laid down, here's the error I'm having. My game runs perfectly for about 5 seconds, then stalls for 5 seconds (Times are approximate, haven't gone more than 10 seconds without a stall though). Its not like my FPS is dropping, but its like the game actually stops. The music turns off when it stalls, but the background noises (Water and such) continue as if the game wasn't lagging at all. Also, no movement happens during these stalls, even if I was holding down W the entire time.

The game runs at a very stable level at high specs, except for this issue. Its also noticeable, believe it or not, on the main menu screen. The little cinematic playing in the background stalls, the music stops, and I can't select any options. 5 seconds or so later, and it resumes as if nothing had happened, leaving off from the point I left it on.

I have tried several different servers, and have concluded that is not in fact serverside, but its going down on my end (I've tried a range of servers with all different pings and locations)

I have attempted to reinstall the games, as I figured maybe I messed something up the first time around. I deleted all the content, then installed Arma 2 and OA from Steam. I installed the beta patch, then ran Six Updater (Wasn't sure, so I did it anyway). Opening Six Launcher, its all up to date, and I can join servers and games.

If need be, I am able to take a video from my camera (As I fear FRAPS would not capture the stalling)

I've lowered all my settings to minimum, removed antialiasing, etc. I've lowered view distance to 1000. I've installed a no-blur mod, still nothing.

I just want to play DayZ :(

3.4Ghz on 2 cores? blah!

Anyways, what you could try defragging your drive, tweaking around in your Nvidia control panel or uninstall everything and do a clean install. :s

Yeah, I know, I need to upgrade it soon. I'll probably do it once I go off to college.

ANYWHO, I HOPEFULLY FIGURED IT OUT

Funny, I was lurking the Day Z Subreddit, and I saw this thread

No lag so far, but I'll report back if something changes
