AAR - Journey to the North

After Action Replay: Journey to the North

I don't actually know if this is the right place to put this, if not please move it.

This is an AAR of my journey to the airbase to rescue a friend. It was very successful, and amazingly lucky.

The Leadup

So the leadup focuses on how we were doing before this happened. So me and my mate were looting the buildings near the hospital just outside of Cherno, getting medical supplies and other items, lee enfield ect, ect. When suddenly by grace of the gods (scriptkiddies) we and all of the other players on the server were teleported to a remote island in the middle of the ocean and then promptly died. Except my comrade (whose flight instincts engaged and ran for the water), the scriptkiddies then teleported him to the northern airbase where he promptly disconnected.

He then moved to the server NZ 17 and began searching the airbase, it was deserted and unfortunately upon opening one of the doors of death inside the north barracks, broke his leg and fell to the ground in agony loosing blood, he searched to find a bandage finally stopping the flow with only 1700 blood to spare.

I respawned outside of electro still on NZ 04 (scriptkiddie paradise) and ran for the church, upon finding a czech backpack heard gunshots and ran for it. Moving towards the fire station outside of the city I spotted another player but did not approach, I climbed onto the fire station and decided to sit up the top. Upon doing so I decided to go help my friend who was stuck at the NW airfield with a broken leg and 1700 blood. So I jumped off the building and disconnected before I hit the ground.

The Journey to the North - Part 1: The ATV

Well for some odd reason I respawned. At Kamenka, I thought great of all places to spawn. As I headed into the town I heard the sound of an engine and thought. Great of all things, bandits. But no! For it was another unarmed player riding an ATV. The poor chap had gotten it stuck in the fence so he jumped on the back and I took the wheel and freed it. I then announced "Too the north-western airfield!" and drove off. But about 5 minutes later my newly-found comrade was missing and I felt bad for taking his ATV so I say this:

I will give you the next one I find, along with some beans and the weapon I am carrying at the time. Sorry for stealing your vehicle :) Send me a PM or email.

The Journey to the North - Part 2: Fuel and Disaster

So I began my journey north following this path: http://localhostr.co...Dy/waynorth.jpg

(The path image is rather big so just use the link.)

The ATV handles nicely, it was my first time driving one and it only had half a tank of gas but was going good. But terror struck when the fuel gauge hit the red. Quickly I checked the DayZ wiki on how to fuel a vehicle and jerry cans (learning that a jerry can comes full when you find it and that an ATV needs 30L of fuel and a jerry can has 20L in it, might of read it wrong though it was 10PM at the time). So checking the spawn ratios on the maps I moved over many barns and petrol stations looking for gas to fuel my ride.

Alas I found none, I trumbled into the last petrol station just outside of Vybor and then rolled over the concrete and flipped my poor ATV on its side. Because of this I bided my solem farewell and left it there, alone.

I pushed into Vybor with my backpack and trusty fireaxe that I collected a few towns back and headed for the supermarket seeking supplies. Walking slowly as it was close to dark I navigated past the zombies, walkers, undead, whatever you want to call them I prefer not mentioning a name actually just saying "There's one to your left" or "They are fucking everywhere".

Upon reaching the supermarket this is where the luck began to emerge. By chance I found 3 cans of beans, 3 cans of soft drink, a winchester, a lee enfield, ammo for both and a m1911 pistol. With these in tow I headed for the airfield.

The Journey to the North - Part 3: Shit hit the fan, but we managed to clean it

Localhostr decided to cark it so imgur is on the ball now.

I lost track of where I was going on the map eventually realising I reached the checkpoint before the airfield, I took a right heading for the barracks. And then the shit hit the fan, I shift-tabbed into Steam to let my friend know I was on my way, which well...toggled my run -.-

So I ran across the road like a noob with a flare up his arse and every mother fucker from here to Cherno heard me, I had no choice but to fire my winchester so every other member of my entourage knew where I was. I ran for the military barracks but upon running in the door a park bench stood in my way, I took five seconds to scratch my head in confusement and then desperately mashed V to try and get over it. I ended up getting stuck on top...

By the end of the onslaught I had killed 39 of my closest friends, had 1100 blood to spare and a broken leg. Things were looking grim. I searched the barracks and to my over-the-top joy I found some morphine with my friend calling me the luckiest bastard he had ever met over teamspeak.

I 'quietly' crossed the road this time and headed for the airfield for a rendezvous.

Upon finding my friend he was not in good shape, he had an axe and it was now dark so he was okay, but the 1700 blood wasn't helping and neither was the broken leg. We examined the map and decided on going back to the other barracks to see if anything had spawned by now. So quietly making our way there and falling unconscious many, oh so many times we reached our destination. No morphine D: But hey is this an AKM? :) and wait, is this a M16A4 ACOG? http://localhostr.co...KZ/DOOM0109.png

So we thought of maybe shooting my friend, but after a lenghly discussion on it decided not to and instead that we would head for the hangars in a row. I said that each hanger had a 1.91% chance of spawning medical loot with a 21.74% chance of spawning some morphine. My comrade who is a bit of a maths guru predicted a 7% chance of us finding some. So we said we'll try our best and go for it.

And to our luck. I found some. In the first hangar. Up the back. http://tinyurl.com/6acykea

So we explored the rest and then high tailed it out of there.

Upon leaving we struck gold with finding two cows and getting enough meat to fill our blood. Doing this we decided to call it a night and to make for the south tomorrow.
