suggestion: turn into zombie at death?

Recommended Posts

Id like to see some mechanism for PC's turning into zombies. Its a bit odd that there isn't. (I was surprised not to find a thread on this on the forum, I did search for one, so sorry if i didnt find it and its been discussed to death already!)

Perhaps if killed by zombies there is a chance your corpse turns. Or possibly everyone is infected, as its an airborne virus, and so when you die, you have a chance to turn, depending on type of death, say, head wound you don't get up, but other wounds there is a chance. Possibly varying time scale for turning, to make looting someones body a tense moment. Could be 5 seconds, could be 5 mins, might be never.

Not totally sure what to do with peoples equipment when you become a zombie, perhaps it all gets dropped? or your zombie just carrys it about until it de-spawns.

The thing is these zombies are not undead in terms of lore, they are infected people. Basically, nasty rabies.

You die when your blood reaches 0, right? Well, a zombie with 0 blood would also be dead.

What I want to hint at is that player death wouldn't be the right choice for making a player a zombie. Rather, the player has to be alive to possibly become a zombie. You would have to introduce a new kind of infection besides the sickness you get from cooling out that's been introduced recently.

Most zombie films I have seen, when someone dies they come back as a Zombie. And the walking dead is an example of what the OP is talking about. Once someone dies the virus (that is airborn and thus inside everyone but dornmant until death) reanimates the body of the dead person.

rocket spent time with his brother to work out how the zombie thing actually works. This is mentioned in the PCGamer interview - have a read: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/16/day-z-interview-how-zombies-arma-2-created-gamings-best-story-machine/

But essentially, the background for the zombies came from my brother who is a virologist in New Zealand, and he studies influenza vaccines. So he actually sat down with me and we came up with a context behind the virus, and why things are the way they are in a fairly believable fashion.

(That quote is from page 2. The whole interview is a really entertaining read though.)

I mean, you could of course reject the influenza idea, but I like it a lot myself, that's why I'm bringing it up.
