ghostlycoyote@gmail.com 2 Posted August 4, 2012 I've been playing DayZ for several days now, and I just keep dying of dehydration over and over and over...Never once have I found a water bottle or canteen or soda the whole time. I'm sure it doesn't help that I avoid the big cities and stick to barns, warehouses and hunter blinds/huts.Does anyone know where Canteens are most likely to respawn? KennyNZ 121 Posted August 4, 2012 Just got to a supermarket, there are several inland that are not raided often.
paladin1128 9 Posted August 4, 2012 grocery stores, barracks, airfields, apartment buildings, and barns are where I have found them.
GeordieMarv 293 Posted August 4, 2012 deer stands, military places, residential, barns, stores for water canteens.also check zombie corpses, they sometimes have odd can of soda on them.
Malachi Krieg 22 Posted August 4, 2012 I've had the best luck finding water bottles in supermarkets and deer stands, though I have found them on occasion in the other places listed. I strongly suggest you use DayZDB's map. You can put and item in the search box and it will mark spots on the map where you can find them.
ALiborio 13 Posted August 4, 2012 I usually find plenty of canteens. My last life I had 5 and found many more in my travels, granted it was my longest life yet. In my current life I haven't found a single one, having hit up a couple of supermarkets, many deerstands and couple barns. Thankfully I've found plenty of soda to keep me hydrated. I try to keep at least 3 or 4 sodas on me just in case and when I find new sodas I drink one and pick up a new one.
CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted August 4, 2012 I call bull! Maybe you see them as empty cans? Go to Electro or Cherno and you'll find tons!
MDRN Buddha 4 Posted August 4, 2012 If you do happen to down a zombie check the body. If you see the normal rifle icon with 3 verticle dashes under it, it means nothing. But if there is 2 arrows in a circle around that rifle, the zombie has loot. Ive been saved out in the middle of no where in small towns by this. A random can of food or soda can be found. Even empty canteens which can be filled up at the wells(cement circle with a hand pump thing coming out) which can be a life saver and always something you should carry.
jetao2008@hotmail.com 175 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) If you're having difficulties to find cans of soda then trust me, you don't want a canteen. Lakes and water pumps are not that easy to find like soda cans, if you don't know where to look.Until you have a better feel of the map and the best locations to loot, just stick with the cans for some time!Otherwise you'll lose a lot of time just looking at places to refill your canteen and you won't even play.Have a loot at this http://dayzdb.com/map for example, so you can decide which place to start looking. Cheers. Edited August 4, 2012 by Fenrig
ghostlycoyote@gmail.com 2 Posted August 4, 2012 thanks, but actually, I come across the ponds/lakes all the time, but as the old saying goes, "Water water everywhere, but not a single drop to spare.." I definitely need to get a better feel for the map. I imagine I'll spend a lot more time dying from thirst before I get a good feel for the map. Thanks EVERYONE for the suggestions! And Helicopter Hunter? I tried that too, but there was no in game option for my character drinking her own urine. Damnable! How did Rocket KNOW I already had that on my mind? ;)
Sula 1205 Posted August 4, 2012 I didn't find one my first week. Died from thirst, feel for you. Be very careful and sneak into the local town's store. They're always full of players killing each other so go when it's quiet. Grab soda whenever you can. Remember keep an eye on your inventory. You pick up six sodas and you won't realise all your other stuff is dropping on the floor!
ghostlycoyote@gmail.com 2 Posted August 6, 2012 Oh, that map link REALLY helped me out! I think I've finally got a chance against the Bandits! oh, and the zombies too.. they can be a threat some times... the ones you don't see behind bushes at dusk. Thanks for all the comments, guys!
