rukqoa 4 Posted May 25, 2012 The game should allow us to choose our initial spawn with a limitation of the coastline (say around 50m width) from Kamenka up to Solnichniy.Problems this would solve:1. Teaming up with friends would be easier2. Make deathmatch bandits think twice before they camp the coastline to rack up their kill countWhy this isn't a realism problem:1. People suicide and respawn anyway. This will make it less of a hassle, considering that with the unstable servers (alpha, I know), it may take hours to get a good spawn near where you want to go.2. Why do you wake up on a coast anyway? If realism is so important, shouldn't you wake up in a house (as a native), a military camp (a soldier), a chopper wreck (as a pilot/gunner)...etc? You could make the argument that you woke up from a shipwreck, but then why do people wash up ashore days apart from each other?3. If this is an apocalyptic scenario (it is), it's likely that wherever we go, we will end up near our friends.Discuss. (My first post btw, be gentle)
Bandit Hunter 29 Posted May 25, 2012 Well, as for "deathmatch bandits," Theres about 100km of coastline to spawn on, the odds are low of meeting one of these mythical bandits that I personally have never seen. That is, of course, if you move OFF the coast within a few minuets of spawning. Running up and down the coast is different, and defeats the purpose of choosing your spawn in the first place. Rakkasan 23 Posted May 25, 2012 You have some valid points and others will argue about the realism. Maybe a group feature when you join a server would be nice, but make if you are rolling a new character, to play with a friend on a server where he/she has been alive for couple hours already, despawn to be with you and lose their items, would not be fair to join in with a friend who has a backpack full of gear to give to you on the beach. rukqoa 4 Posted May 25, 2012 Running up and down the coast is different' date=' and defeats the purpose of choosing your spawn in the first place.[/quote']Actually, you wouldn't need to run up and down the coast if you could choose your spawn. I understand that DayZ wasn't designed for "fun" in the first place (it just turned out that way), but honestly, all that walking just seems kind of pointless. On the other hand, I have actually met quite a few malicious deathmatch bandits (possibly because I die a lot). They're just out to get you for no reason at all. I've recently acquired the habit of emptying all of my gear into the ocean when I spawn excluding my pistol and the one mag I have in it just to spite them. You have some valid points and others will argue about the realism. I doubt people with good gear (+ a full backpack) will risk the coast just so they can get to their friends. Most people will just wait until the newly spawned guy walk to where they are, which already happens anyway.
Rakkasan 23 Posted May 25, 2012 I have gone to the coast many times to give gear to my friends, but it is much safer to have them come to me or vice versa. But to let anyone spawn in exactly where their friends are at anytime, I do not really think that is fair, just as choosing my spawn, if that were the case who wouldnt choose a military tent? (50m width) There's no military tent that close to the coast. If you're talking about more people choosing to spawn near Balota, that wouldn't happen, because if they all spawned there, then there will be even more human players there to pick them off. Rakkasan 23 Posted May 25, 2012 Lol true true true. Either way it is more fun playing with your friends, but getting to them can be discouraging. I would hope to be with friends or family when if something like this really happened so I don't really see the realism arguement coming into play.
cheebu1 2 Posted May 25, 2012 i think that we should be allowed to spawn where we want only at the beginning of life so that i can start my adventure with friends... because i usually die before i meet them... and re-spawning until youre close enough is currently not an option... BannedOpinion 14 Posted May 25, 2012 No choice. That'll kill the game, because people will just spawn around areas of good loot anyway, regardless of bandits.People still waltz into Cherno or Elektro like they're fucking ironman as it is.i think that we should be allowed to spawn where we want only at the beginning of life so that i can start my adventure with friends... because i usually die before i meet them... and re-spawning until youre close enough is currently not an option...Protip: don't die. It's pretty simple, I've only ever been killed once within the first hour of play. Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted May 25, 2012 Travelling to meet up with your friends is the first challenge you face accept it.
LastShenanigan 8 Posted May 26, 2012 It's not a terrific social experiment if I spend 2 hours searching for my friend to experience it with. Larger groups have it easier as they have better means to repair vehicles. I agree that it was a fun challenge the first few times we did it, but with him dying and each random location resets... I get a little less interested in running through the woods forever. The most intense moments of panic and emotion are when we're together trying to make the best of it. It's a lot more harrowing when someone blows your best pal's face off around the corner from you then some random stranger you've only ever typed "friendly" to. Should he be able to magically spawn on top of me everytime he dies? NO! Should we spend our entire play session meeting in a center location between Kamenka and Berezino? NO. Quote realism as much as you want... there's no realistic explanation concerning where we spawn as is. Were you a a resident in this town? Did your boat wash up on the beach? Did you have any close neighbors that survived the apocalypse? Before the apocalypse, me and my friend co-owned a fishing business based in Kamyshovo. I'm just saying, Random does not equal a perfect system. It doesn't have to be stupidly easy, but it shouldn't be impossibly boring time sinks.
