Bug Reporting mess

Recommended Posts

What I'm seeing in this section is very frustrating. Maybe it's because I've worked in games QA, and have moved on from that to Software Developer in Test (basically, I test stuff by programming stuff to do that testing now).

I think there needs to be more guidelines to the posts in this forum, to make sure bugs are properly being reported, triaged and tracked.

1st, Search to see if a bug has already been posted.

2nd, Bug posts should only contain 1 bug!

3rd, The Thread Subject line should be meaningful, yet terse and optionally contain the version found in. You could even add tags to the beginning of the title.

For example you have a bug where throwing a flare magically makes you bleed. The title should reflect this.

EG (not a real bug to my knowledge): [bleeding] Thrown flares causes player to bleed (version found).

4th, Only post in a bug thread if you have something to add to the existing bug. Additional info, such as alternate reproduction steps. If the bug is duplicate, post a link to the original bug posting and list it as "Duplicate bug". Let the forum admins decide if the duplicate post needs to be locked/moved/deleted/merged.

5th, Follow the bug template. It's there for a reason.
