Pickpocket Detector

Recommended Posts

There have been multiple occasions where I can tell someone is looking in my bag but have no proof. Its not very realistic that someone can be standing a foot away from you and you have no idea if they are rummaging through your bag. Currently the only option is to constantly check to see if an item has gone missing. I would like to add a function that lets you check if someone is looking in your bag. Maybe only allow you to check once every 10 seconds, so you have to catch someone in the act. Make pickpocketing more exciting for both parties.

The only notification you should get is an unzipping sound...also ya i agree some random ass mother fucker should not be able to just face me and be all like "IM all up in your bag bro...fuckin it up"....you should only be able to check others backpacks if behind them.

A simple rummaging sound would give an indication without adding any more hud elements.

Nice and subtle

By reading threads like this, I wonder if we actually play the same game.

1. How do you get people around you who steal stuff out of your bag?

2. Why do you get around people who steal stuff out of your bag?

3. Its a stupid idea for ultra bad players.

Just tell them that you dont like people close behind you. Finish

Did you seriously just say that playing with others is for bad players...wrong...its for non forever alone people who feel like PLAYING a GAME together...if your are seriously saying playing dayz alone 24/7 is fun...your a disturbing person.

I would just worry that the sound would be TOO obvious. If I know every time, no one is going to pickpocket. What if you had like a little mini game to unzip the bag, if you failed it made the noise? I don't know what you would do to make the mini game realistic though. Zipper simulator!

Ever heard of backstabbing someone?

And you can access the person's pack from any dam angle it seems.

Well I like helping strangers. And you never know if someone is a bad guy. I would agree that my choice is not wise if all I cared about was how many hours I stayed alive.

One of my traps, is that I will put a pistol with no ammo in my bag. I instantly see them equip it and shoot them in the face. "Keep your hands out of people's bags." BLAM! Street justice! But this only works on idiots. Coincidently, idiots tend to also be thieves. ;-)

Thievery should be a perfectly acceptable playstyle. Any attempt to curb that seems unnecessary and doesn't fit with the "can you trust this stranger?" feel to this mod.

Would it not be better if the theif makes some sort of unique animation when he checks the bag? And that the animations only stops when he stops looking in your bag. That way you can still do it to people having their volume turned up and got their backs against you. If it's a sound like when you eat food or open a can of coke it would be really easy to hear.

How about you hear a subtle noise when something 5+ blocks big gets removed. But other than that you need to see the thiefs animation to know if he is trying to steal stuff.

I have no problem with thievery. But right now there is no challenge to the actual stealing part, there is only the trust game. I want to make it a more dynamic real play style, for both the thief and the mark.

While I do find the idea of a spinoff series of games revolving around the idea of zippers appealing, I find the idea of stealthily unzipping a bag in DayZ where all players are hyper aware of constant impending doom do be quite unreasonable.

Zipper Simulator, rated M for Mature.

Are you proposing, say, a line-of-sight rule for determining if someone can steal from your bag? I can see that making sense, then.
