Using a flare to start a fire

It's about as simple as the title states...

I've used flares to start a camp fire many times while camping in real life.

Please implement this because why not, and it should be super easy to implement.

Definitely realistic as a flare burns at 2000°C. Starting a fire with it is definitely possible.

I was thinking about this. A flare burns around 1,900f. If that doesn't ignite wood, I don't know what does.

Sounds logical, but you have to consider the game mechanic consequences. Matches are pretty rare and at the moment very important items, while flares are very common. This would mean that cooking meat would become much easier and thus also surviving would get a lot easier.

For the sake of argument, flares also give away your position and have a limited number of uses (though I realize they are very common).

Yeah, Chernarus is a place where lighters don't exist and we get more sniper rifles than matchboxes. Sad truth.

well, there shouldnt be a "balance" you just use tools you have to survive. what you need to gut an animal? a sharp blade. what item have it? knife and a hatchet.

making game close to reality, doesnt always means to make it harder, some times it makes it easier

It needs to be realistic which means some things will get easier but other things will become extremely difficult. Also I agree we should be able to gut an animal with an axe since they can be done irl, but should yield less meat since its not really good or easy way to gut an animal.

If all i had was an axe why not, just make it take 5 or 10 times longer to gut it. It makes you an open target in a field, same with using a flare to start a camp fire at night.

In any case, if i was hungry enough, I would use my teeth to gut an animal and eat it raw.

A sharp stone is sufficient to gut an animal. There is no reason logical solutions to problems should be ignored, difficulty can be increased in other ways.

I was thinking about the flare thing, too and think it's great. I've decided that a lot of the people talking about making the game too easy really mean they don't want to lose the advantage they get from certain lapses in realism and the advantage they get from certain elements of realism. In short, whatever makes the game harder for them needs to be stopped.

People talk about realism all day and then you mention flares and it's like, "No, we need to make the game harder!" You tell them that sniper rifles are just regular rifles that shoot really far and it's suddenly, "No! But I need to kill you in one hit or else there's no point in me sniping!" You tell them you're considering morphing bandits so they're more easily identifiable and THEN it's suddenly, "No! What about the realism!"
