I am having a ridiculously hard time finding a update 1.6 for this game. All the mirrors on the site are broken.

Are you referring to the patch for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead or the patch files to DayZ?

The latest build for dayZ is 1.5.8.4 and can be downloaded here:

(all mirrors worked fine for me)
