Weapon disappears & other questions

Hello! I started playing Dayz today and it's been awesome so far it's what I've been looking for a while and it's a great deal of fun.

So I've come up with some questions I tried searching the forums, but I couldn't find anything about it. So is hatchet supposed to disappear if dropped cause I lost 2 hatchets today for that reason which I was supposed to give to my friends later when they're loggin' in and also does the weapon disappearing happen with other weapons also, and if so, how can I give weapons to my friends?

If you try and pick up another weapon with one currently equipped it will make it disappear.

You can click on the weapon and select drop on the inventory screen and it will drop without making it disappear.

That is exactly what I did, I just chose it from the inventory and dropped it. Does the disappearing also occur if I'm holding the weapon when I drop it?

Not most of the time.

Hmm ok.. Thanks for your help! I quess it's still alpha anyway so it's not that surprising.

Items can fall through the floor when in buildings and on slopes, it is best to find a nice flat piece of ground and drop some tin cans or something which you can afford to lose. If the item that you dropped can be picked up, add the items which you want to give to your friend to the same loot pile, that way you will not lose your items.
