Rakkasan 23 Posted August 3, 2012 Military simulator, but the sound is all whack. Someone shoots, you hear it, but no clue where it is coming from. A zombie spawns, you hear it, but where? Maybe I am missing something but I have the sound quality set to high or whatever. I hear people shooting at me, all the damn time, I run, strafe, pan camera, but no clue which direction the shots are coming from, and most of the time I end up running right into the person shooting at me, instead of running the opposite direction. Why would this game/mod not have that?
slyder73 94 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) You need a better sound system or headset.I use a headset with 7.1 surround and can tell exactly what direction sound is coming from. Every gunshot, every footstep, exact direction. When someone shoots in the distance at me, I can turn to the sound because it comes accurately from the correect direction. If you already have a good sound system, check the settings. The only thing that doesn't work well for direction is the actual in game VOIP. griffinz 2816 Posted August 3, 2012 Arma has directional sound. It's pretty standard. Check your settings.

Irenicus (DayZ) 289 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Your sound settings must be all wrong.I have a high end sound system (home theatre with 720watts RMS) and can hear exactly where everything is coming from. I can tell when its coming from behind (surround speakers etc) , front left etc, I can even guestimate the distance of shots due to the different sounds depending on distance! Hell, even Direct Chat is directional and you can even tell exactly where it's coming from, and when it's being occluded by walls etc. It's awesome.I will say though, that sound levels do need some tweaking as footsteps are WAAAY too loud. Works really well for me and like I just mentioned I can even tell when someone is in another building etc due to the sound of the voice sounding muffled and more distant etc.
Rakkasan 23 Posted August 3, 2012 Do I need to adjust it in settings somewhere? I am using a Sony headset with Dolby Surround Sound. Maybe I am missing something.
grindstone50k 208 Posted August 3, 2012 Hell, I'm using cheap earbuds and I can tell where gun shots and moans are coming from.
CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted August 3, 2012 Wow... You must be new to computers buddy. My head set is surround sounds so I hear what direction the sounds are coming from. Are you using regular speakers/head set or something?
Irenicus (DayZ) 289 Posted August 3, 2012 Do I need to adjust it in settings somewhere? I am using a Sony headset with Dolby Surround Sound. Maybe I am missing something.Hmmm I don't know as I don't use headphones. AFAIK unless you are using dolby digital live, you won't get surround using digital signals in games, at least with my sound card that's how it works. I always use analog for games, as my reciever/amp uses individual inputs. I use digital signals too of course (Dolby Digital, DTS), but not for games, but I have an old (but very good) sound card (audigy 2zs with the gold connectors).Hope you find the solution as I know that I would be lost without good directional sound
Rakkasan 23 Posted August 3, 2012 I found it, it was disabled on my sound card.
KField86 237 Posted August 3, 2012 I can hear exactly where shots come from, and I can usually pin point the person within a few meters of where they stood when they fired. It's all in your sound system dude. I can also hear zombies around me and know where they are at all times.
slyder73 94 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Do I need to adjust it in settings somewhere? I am using a Sony headset with Dolby Surround Sound. Maybe I am missing something.Find the correct drivers etc for your headset, then set up the surround sound as best it can do in the Windows settings. When you go into game it should work better for you.EDIT: Sorry, I see you found the solution. Enjoy the good sound now! :beans: Edited August 3, 2012 by Slyder73
