About self hosting, a question

Recommended Posts

Yes i've read that sticky page and now a got a question. And no I'm not trying for a home host. I actually have server colo hosted in a datacenter. But my main question is does it have to be 3.0 GHz for the cpu? cause my server has 2x 8 cores of 2.6 Ghz so would amount of cores balance out the lack of Ghz per core?

Don't point out the bandwidth I have the "you pay what you use."

Yeah it would easily cope with it. I think the specs are more for the future of hoping they can cope with 150-250 players.

The specs of the machine as I recall on this tiny sheet of paper is:

CPU: 2x AMD Opteron 6238 (I was a dum-azz I thought I've had 2 8 cores)

System Drive: 4x RAID 1 Intel 320 160 GB SDD

Storage Drive: RAID 1 4x WD RE4 2TB

Motherboard: IDK my buddy who is in webhosting gave it to me. I remember it as "The Rainbow Board"

This now are the plan I'm under:

Free 200GB Upload and Unlimited Download

And for the Upload past that I pay as I go/use.

I actually have this server up as the "General Purpose Server" so pretty much I've been going between testing scripts and minecraft.

You could struggle on bandwidth. A busy server can supposedly chew through 2-3TB/month.

I have pay as you go/use.

So if I use 2TB I'll only pay 1.8 TB of data use.

My datacentre charges about 10-20 USD per 100GB after a certain point it will be the 20 USD.

This is my issue of hosting my own.

Opertron Servers are mostly made for mass compute power Intel based are made for SQL and other fast softwares. If the Dayz server software only uses Intel clock based and can only use 4 core it won't work.

My 50 player is using about 1500GB a month in total bandwidth and it's rank 28 out of all servers on gametracker so it's pretty busy. Just to give you an idea of usage.
