My question is, how well would this run dayz at 40 FPS on, medium is bare minimum at 40 FPS, hoping for high. Edited August 3, 2012 by TheSneakySpy
Psyl3nt 125 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Personally I would be looking to get a better power supply, that one is "adequate" and the numbers add up to what "should" be a decent PSU, but it is cheap, and generally you get what you pay for.IMO, the powersupply is one of the most important parts of the system so you should get something "nice" perhaps try to push the budget up to at least the $100 mark. The rest "should" have no problems running the game at mid - high graphics settings (depending on resolution). Edited August 3, 2012 by Psyl3nt
TheSneakySpy 1 Posted August 3, 2012 So this 600w PSU shouldnt have a problem running the game?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182032It looks pretty good
schwifty 22 Posted August 3, 2012 The processor is good, the X4 965 is pretty rad. I have the X4 965 Black Edition (just made for over clocking). The power supply doesnt affect your computers ability to run the game, it affects your computers ability to run. The high end GPU's take up some wattage for sure. My old rig ran 2 x Radeon HD2900's in crossfire and I had to use a 1kw or 1.2kw power supply. Those cards are over half a decade old now. For a GPU you could try pushing a little higher to keep this rig going farther into the future. Also if you decide to push to a 6970 you can save money by getting the 6950. Same power, just 3 less shader versions (which you can unlock if you know what you are doing but it will void your warrantee instantly).
thisisbleep 32 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Some points:Buy a branded PSU, e.g. Corsair, Thermaltake, Cooler Master (a "pro" version instead of the ones included in the case). Otherwise you risk it destroying every PC component with a power surge. The size of the PSU is only related to the power needed to run the PC, a 600W is more than sufficient and will be future proof, allowing you to add a second graphics card or upgrade the existing one later.AMD CPUs are not great for games (typically), the game developers tend to develop for intel chips so some performance is lost.Micro ATX motherboard is not ideal because you only get 2 ram slots (need to buy new ram to upgrade later and throw the existing parts) and you only have 1 PCI slot and 1 PCI-E slot. Therefore no dual graphics card setup later and you only have space for one other item (e.g. wireless card).Ultimately that costs $343 for a reason, it will have a lot of limitations for a "gaming PC" if that is what you want. It would be a good PC which you can play games on, but you will outgrow this quite quickly.EDIT: Regarding the FPS in DayZ, don't bother thinking about it because even top PCs which cost 4x as much suffer from FPS drops in cities and when the server has not been restarted for a while. The server can severely impact your FPS and the game is not optimised. Edited August 3, 2012 by thisisbleep
