Betabyte (DayZ)

Kickstarter for stand alone ?

Recommended Posts

Hi, first of all to Rocket & team, awesome job with this mod.

Best alpha i have ever played. This game reminds me of Counterstrike, the early betas.

Im taling about the revolutionary gameplay (in 2000)

When you just knew they had a gem wich nobody in the industry really pulled off before (again, talking early 2000). That's the only comparison with CS btw ;)

I watched most of your presentations Rocket, and it seems you are(were) still undicided(sp?)

about how to do the business part off the stand-alone.

I know you consider a minecraft businessmodel, but i wonder what your opinions/thoughts are about

Kickstarter. Did at some point you consider the stand alone as a crowd-funded game, or is that an idea

that is not reasonaly feasible.

Greetings from one of your poor survivor victims. ;)

I agree. A kickstarter would be huge and would be funded very well.

DayZ kickstarter would be a goldmine (with some of my gold thrown in)... but I think Bohemia will want to monetize the DayZ stand-alone or as ARMA 3 DLC

Kickstarter is an easy, inexpensive, and fast way to get the funds needed to produce a standalone DayZ. With that I approve.

And a sure fire way for people to pull scams with.

It is better to finish developing a game and have people donate based on the worth of THAT game, not people dropping money for something they don't know what to expect. Do it like Starbound:

http://playstarbound.com/

Hi there guys and girls,

For a while now we’ve been receiving emails, tweets, forum messages etc from people asking us how they can support Starbound. A lot of people have been asking for a paypal address or some other means of donating.

I’ve always said that I wouldn’t like to take monetary donations towards the release of a commercial product. Frankly, I think if you’re going to send us your money you deserve to get something in return.

DayZ as a standalone is likely going to be a commercial product if Rocket thinks about selling a entry price.

Oh oh, guess what? If you 'donate' via kickstarters, most of the games develops there don't even give you a free copy!

Gee guess what one of the project was like?

Oh and you don't get a copy of the game, no matter how little or much you donate, unless you think $200 is worth the game?

I don't think Bohemia Interactive would let a kickstarter happen.

Unless nearly all the proceeds were kept within the company, or something like that.

Bohemia has no control on what Rocket wants to develop, while Arma II mods can be justified as assets belonging to them, Rocket can claim the idea of DayZ.

Plus if he does go indie with DayZ, Bohemia trying to replicate it on Arma III will just fail, because they don't know how it works. They will also fail because they cannot compete with the War Z, with development being THAT late at this point.

I would hope it is a standalone and not just a DLC.
