Suicide Mouse 50 Posted May 24, 2012 Could anyone inform me if the Sniper Rifles have more damage the more distance the projectile travels before hitting the target?
undead_clown 2 Posted May 24, 2012 Could anyone inform me if the Sniper Rifles have more damage the more distance the projectile travels before hitting the target?Believe it is the opposite. Bullets begin to slow the second they leave the barrel, losing energy, which in-game means losing damage. I know that the AK for example 1-shots zombies within 5-10m but past that takes 2 shots to kill.
Bandit Hunter 29 Posted May 24, 2012 ArmA's engine is built to realistically mimic weapon ballistics. Its safe to assume if its fact in real life, ArmA replicates it, and vice versa.
naizarak 41 Posted May 24, 2012 Could anyone inform me if the Sniper Rifles have more damage the more distance the projectile travels before hitting the target?the bullet begins to slow down upon leaving the muzzle of the gun. you do max damage at point blank and it levels off from there. undead_clown 2 Posted May 24, 2012 I just wish rocket could use the ACE ballistic system, so much better/realistic. Never seen better sniping ballistics.
banshee 6 Posted May 25, 2012 Talking about real life a 5.56 from the M16 has an effective range of about 400-500 m and a max range of about 600m. This means past those ranges the bullet will not inflict much damage. The 7.62 round has an effective range of about 600-700m and a max effective range of about 1000m.Vanilla Arma seems weired in terms of the AK, but the DMR, M14, M24 and others are good.A bullet has a certain cinetic energy and a speed it travels. 5.56x45mm has an energy of 1763 Joules when it leaves the barrel with a speed of 948m/s. At max effective range (600m) it only has 465 Joules left.7.62x51mm (DMR, M14, M24) has an energy of 3275 Joules when it leaves the barrel with a speed of 850m/s. At max effective range (1000m) 616 joules are left. This means the energy the round holds decreases heavily during flight wich means it makes more damage on closer and less damage on more far ranges.Same goes for all types of ammo but with diffrent numbers. Obviously a .45 ACP round holds more cinetic energy than a 9mm thus 1-shoting Zeds at closer ranges.Hope that summed it up a bit. :) This is real life but Arma2 replicates that very good. ACE2 for Arma2 does it even better, but we don't have that luxury at the moment.
