gant gant: helping friends

Recommended Posts

gant rant is what my friends call it when i go on a tyrade about one thing or another. usually they find it amusing.

This is another chance for me to rant and rave about things in DayZ, which is not me trying to talk about new features being implemented, or offer helpful advice. Really it is just a way for me to get things off my chest, and maybe get a few grins while I do it. I love this game, and I love the experiences I get from it.

My favorite experience is what I like to call the Traveling Child Experience. Walking is hard, helping new players is hard. Reading the map is hard. All these things combine to make the road trip from hell, if especially done right. Here I am, coming down from what I am doing to help out my friends in the game as they come in from death. I don’t mind, whatever. It is fun to die with buddies than die alone, right? Half the time though, I hope I die first so I don’t have to deal with the hell that is Chernarus with friends.

I mean for God’s sake guys, the map is 225 square km, and I am running the entire length of it. Stop asking me how long the journey is going to take. It is going to take a while. Get a feel for the game while you wait I say, run around and get eaten and die a few times I say. It doesn’t matter, I will be there and we will be able to meet up. Of course, they do this, and I get to hear about it the entire time.

Sneaking isn’t sneaking if you keep telling me you are sneaking, it is literally like babysitting sometimes over our team speak. Yes we use team speak, as this is a video game, not a video serious. It is supposed to be fun, so we will use 3rd party communication software to find each other. But believe me, I wish we didn’t. Anyway, I digress yet again.

So it isn’t sneaking if hear you tell me you are crawling and sneaking around the zombies every three seconds. Dammit man, I know you can do that. All these things you are learning are not new to me. But keep doing it, stop asking me where I am.

It get’s incredibly fun when I do tell them where I am, as I have/had a gps. Grid coordinates mean nothing to them, it just confuses them as they begin to ask in relation to them. Are you here yet? Dude…no…

Well how far are you from me? I don’t know, did you stay in kamenka, of course they didn’t, and when they tell me which direction they are running from kamenka, they say North, and they found a bunch of military tents, which is not right. They probably ran east actually. Then the insisting on knowing which city I am near, then asking where that city is… yeah that wasn’t annoying the first 40 minutes of this trip. And then I realize it ahsnt been 40 minutes, it has been 15.

Helping your new friends is like driving to Disney world in Orlando Florida from Alaska with four kids in the back fighting and asking if they are there yet. That annoying feeling, but suddenly when you get there it is all better.

Then you get shot. And it starts over.

Oh well, at least I finally got a bandage.
