Switching weapons whilst running

Recommended Posts

One of the most annoying features of dayz is having to stop and change from your primary and seconday weapons. Very non realistic and you should be able to. I find it quite annoying when you are being chased by zombies and you have to stop to change weapons. U get hit, bleed and since u take your sweet ass time changing weapons, the zombies break your bones or knock you out.

Agreed, but there are ways around it. Obviously run like hell to get some space turn around and run backwards (let them get close) they will go into the "hit" motions during the 2 or 3 seconds of them flailing their arms at nothing, switch to your side arm and have at it.

last week i tried to see if i could indeed run whilst changing from a primary weapon to a secondary. So got a 70L backpack a rifle and a pistol (with thigh hostler) and ran down the hallway. As i don't posses any firearms at all i used a broom as a rifle and fastened a handy strap using sticky tape and some of the wife's good wool. while i got the kids on a project to make daddy a thigh holster and pistol with a beer carton and again the good wool. a fine subsitute and good enough for a trial run.

well the result was its not realistic to be able to swap weapons whilst running. As i tried to swing the "rifle" onto my shoulder i had to turn due to the pot plant in the hall. which made my backpack hit the hallway mirror knocking it off the wall and smashing on the floor cutting my leg as i leaped out the way. i hit the hallstand knocking it over and twisting my ankle as i fell over it and put the "barrel" of the "rifle" through the plasterboard.

after i applied first aid to my leg. and cleaned up the mess. i tried the same thing while standing still and the results were amazing. i managed to do it without injury or destruction of property. i could even switch back but had to move out from under the light fitting.

i would honestly say I could possibly do it at a slow walk but i didn't want to risk it as the wife was already mad at me for smashing the mirror and putting a hole in the wall, and wasting her good wool.

Bumped plus comment.

Definitely needs fixing, though taking into consideration that shouldering a weapon takes more finess than running is capable of there is instead the option of throwing your empty primary to the ground and whipping out your M9 to finish the deed whil still in full tilt.

Just don't do it on a hill as you are not likely to get that primary back!

You sir can have my beans, for taking the initiative to test it out.
