KiloJules 1 Posted May 24, 2012 First off: thanks to everyone involved in this mod - awesome game!--------------------------------------The situation is as follows:- Arma II anniversary edition installed, patched (plays properly online)- DayZ mod installed (re-installed, etc.)- playing DayZ usually as a group of 3 while 2 experience the issue- these two players are both connecting from the same network- other games (BF2; PR:BF2; vArmA II; PR:AA) run totally fine with good pingsWhile being in the server-list aswell as being in-game I have really good ping times somewhere around the 20's - 30's (oc depending on the server but yeah) but as soon as I get near some (2-3 might be enough already) Zeds my ping goes super crazy and rises in the 1000's and above. Oc the chain symbols appear and the desync counter rises too. This stays pretty much as long as I am near them. When I leave into the woods again, it takes some time (30s - 60s maybe) until the ping falls to the usual amount. While this is happening, the Zombies' and my movement is totally fine, no warping, no glitching, everything is smooth...except for the human players around me. We then might see each other on totally different spots, maybe crawling on the spot without moving, doing sth. completely different as the person is describing, you name it - I guess that is what they call desync. Also TS3 (when running) gets slowed down immense as well. The questions I now have are these:What is it with the Zeds that slows my "mate 1" and me so brutally down, while "mate 2" with the same retail version of the game and an slightly worse "starting-ping" is totally fine?Is this a common bug? (didn't find anything and I searched for a while)----------------------TL;DR: very extreme (1000+) ping times on contact with zeds; vanilla arma (koop) plays fine----------------------As this drags down our communication aswell this is a very annoying issue for all 3 of us and I would be very happy to read any helpful answers!Kind regards,Kilo Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
KiloJules 1 Posted May 24, 2012 UPDATE:Since I posted the description I couldn't rest and kept trying to find the reason for this behavior. Now I know WHY it happens but not how to get around it and how no one else notices this. *confused*I installed a tool to monitor Up- and Downstream. I used "NetSpeedMonitor" for that but probably any similar program will do. After several tests with Mumble, TS3, both at the same time, Speedtest, running other games, etc. I now know for sure:a) My Upload s*cks balls. About 120 kbps! Ping is good, Download is low aswell but enough to play anyway.b)The Zombies let the Upstream "explode" as soon as you get near them. -----------------------------The "exact" data was:Dayz in idle (running around in the forest without any Zeds nearby): 25 kbpsDayz with "activated" Zeds nearby: sudden rise up to 200+ kbps which oc is too much for my connection which then results in the mess descripted in my OP.------------------------------So I ask you all to monitor your Upstream while encountering some Zeds and post here in this thread what difference they caused. Oc with all the Uber-Connections that everyone apparently has people probably don't even notice sth. like that but for some, this "almost" ruins the game (still loving it but it is really stressful since coms go down the drain when anything we say gets delivered like 5 secs later). Once again: I am no Arma-Veteran but from my testing these days I say that this is a Dayz only problem, as vanilla AI doesn't cause that Upload increase!I hope people take part in this and provide some data, as it might actually point to some problems in the code that costs a lot of performance in general...we don't know (yet).Thanks for your time!Kilo 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
