Zed Horde

Recommended Posts

Right now, cities and towns are the danger zones, both in terms of bandits and zeds. The forest areas have some dangerous spots, mostly around hunter stands. Roads on the other hand, are almost completely safe. Yes, bandits camp out along them sometimes, but this is relatively rare.

My idea is for a horde of zeds to spawn at random intervals, at where the road ends on either side of the map (random chance which side it spawns at). The horde would move towards the opposite edge of the map from where it spawned, moving more quickly than unalerted zeds but slower than alerted ones. I'm thinking 25-50 zeds, perhaps determined by player count.

When the horde reaches a city, it swarms over it, entering buildings and searching the streets. After a few minutes of this, it continues on down the road to its destination. When/if the horde reaches the opposite edge of the map, it despawns.

My reasoning for why this would be an awesome addition?

-Roads are too safe imo, as aforementioned. This would add a rare but deadly danger to them.

-An exciting event: imagine being in elektro, seeing a player run into the city, shouting that a horde's almost at the city limits. Panic as some players head for the hills, while others (those with the best weapons probably) stay to try to fight the horde off. At the very least, a horde would be something to mention to other friendly players, letting them know what direction it's coming from and how close it is.

Possible cons:

-Server lag, it could very well cause too much to be worth it.

-Implementation time: Rocket's pretty busy as it is, and this would take quite a bit of work (especially the ai for making the zeds swarm into a town's buildings)

In any case, imo it'd be a fun addition to an already awesome experience. Let me know what you think, and I'll see you guys in elektro ^^
