Server Questions/Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Servus,

I am not really into this whole server hosting thing (in any game/mod). Are the dayz servers private servers running on private machines or are they running on professional servers and people (which will in general be the admins i think) pay for this 'service'?

I also have no clue how heavy weight on the performance the whole mod is, so i dont know if it is just technically not possible or just too expensive to run servers which could host up to 200 people or more.

I often run hours through the landscapes from city to city without seeing any evidence for other player (i know there are hotspots but this landscape (mod in general) deserves more investigation then just farming NWE, Cherno or Elektro). Even though i play on servers which host 25+ player.

There are also many people grouping up so that even with 40+ player on the server you just have one bigger group, some smaller groups and some single player which is nothing compared to the size of the map.

I think a 200+ server would be awesome since it then could really be hard to survive because food and medicine is limited. Once you purchased some good gear it is really no challenge at all and the only thing left is to kill other people or get killed.

It is somehow frustrating when you run hours through woods and landscapes in the northern parts of the map knowing that the chance of meeting someone is equal zero. Then you get shot in the middle of nowhere just because the 0.001% case happened and someone was in the same spot and obviously not friendly.

Imagine a 300+ server where the hotspots are heavily invested by some bigger groups. The only chance for the 250+ other player would be to fight for their lives in the northern regions. Sneaking through forests and woods with that amount of player would cause you to be paranoid at any point in game, which is in my opinion, the most important thing in this mod. If then good weapons (Rifles, all the military weapons) would be much more rare and almost all of the buildings (especially the normal houses) are enterable, THIS would be some perfect survival experience. But this is just another topic.

I would even pay monthly for such a server.

Greetings.

They are all hosted professionally and Bohemia is very strict on server rules. You can rent a server for about $75/Mo.

There is another issue i have in terms of Payment: I dont know which payment system dayz will be focussed on but i think i heard it will be some minecraft-like one-time buying (in beta cheaper then on release...) which i think is purely shit since no company (besides the very big ones maybe) can run good server for several years just with the game copies they sold.

Instead of letting people rent a server (this could still be an option) they should make some monthly payment system like in many MMORPG's and host their own awesome 300+ slot servers. Besides that there could be some money left over to invest in dayz2 (lol, fist of all dayz should be past-alpha...)

I know that many people dont like monthly payment (they could play on rented servers) but it would seperate the wheat from the chaff because most of the people not willing to pay monthly for a game are little kids (they should stay away from such games anyway). And i am pretty sure there would be enough player to pay monthly for such a game (IF IT IS DONE).

If DayZ ever got to a fully playable and well polished game I would gladly pay for it. A pay-to-play subscription would probably be overkill even for 300 slots. The servers that host MMORPG's are MASSIVE and cost a lot of money to keep operational. And to be honest, I really wouldn't want to play on DayZ's 225 square Km map with 300 players. Can you imagine what Stary/Cherno/NW Airfield would be like? Sheesh! Maybe if there was a lot more content in the game it wouldn't be so bad since players would actually have something else to do other than kill one another out of boredom. But a fleet of 300 slot servers would not require a pay-to-play subscription. If they did, someone would be getting fucked (the players).
