I've been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find an explanation for this.

Does anyone know what does the option unit stand for in the map menu??

I've also seen the option GEAR here, it seems you can get things from your unit? in this case a car?

Really don't know, so if anyone could explain i'd really appreciate it

Selecting gear in the way you just described is useful in the following situation:

If you are riding in a car, heli, or other vehicle (most likely as a passenger), and you find yourself needing to eat or drink, you can access your inventory this way without getting out of the vehicle. Pressing 'G' when in a vehicle will not open your inventory, so you must access it through the map menu.
