Hellman66 1 Posted August 1, 2012 Hey guys, I'm relatively new to Dayz...I'm not as good as I want to be in the game but here's my experience so far. Usually I spawn and get hit by a zombie and have to waste my first bandage to stop bleeding. That's pretty annoying but whatever, I've learned to deal with it. Then one time I was unarmed just checking out a building and someone wasted me with a SMG. That was real pro I must say lol.Now I started a guy and I got lucky and found a sniper rifle and 4 packs of ammo for it. But all I'm faced with now it like either sniping people back or what do I do? What is the big goal of going up north?I don't really want to just waste random people and this isn't left 4 dead where you really want to snipe zombies so what is the real point? what keeps you going? One other thing let's say my one real life friend that plays is way the F up north and I'm on the coast. There needs to be a teleport option or something so that you can join your friends faster. Finding a server and then walking 75 miles is no fun. This isn't a QQ rant I'm just really honestly looking for opinions, stories and guidance. Thanks for your time. Siberian (DayZ) 527 Posted August 1, 2012 its a sandbox, you have to make your own reasons to play..if you need a theme park Ala WoW, then you wont enjoy DayZ forf longfor me its about surviving as long as possible, taking minimal risk and exploring..had so many close calls, that made for terrific gameplay on spur of the moment unscripted events..
Dickhat 99 Posted August 1, 2012 Someone will call you a casual and say you are QQ'ing in the next replies. Just warning you. Leave this forums and never come back. It's a bad place.

Dreadfell 5 Posted August 1, 2012 Dude, I can tell you my goal. I am behaving as I would in real life. Basicaly I am building a compound in the mountains. It will be lost im sure as this is BETA but its great fun surviving in the wilds and very intense venturing into populous areas:]

Uncle Gapey 16 Posted August 1, 2012 Hey guys, I'm relatively new to Dayz...I'm not as good as I want to be in the game but here's my experience so far. Welcome! You will encounter much hax and buggy deaths. Still a wonderful mod (for a shitty game) though! Now I started a guy and I got lucky and found a sniper rifle and 4 packs of ammo for it. But all I'm faced with now it like either sniping people back or what do I do? What is the big goal of going up north?I don't really want to just waste random people and this isn't left 4 dead where you really want to snipe zombies so what is the real point? what keeps you going? The chance of finding better gear is much greater up north. Check out the Northwest Airfield on this map: http://dayzdb.com/map#5.044.051All of those red dots have a chance to spawn nice weapons and accessories. If you like hunting people, get gear then go hunting! If you like helping people, there is a thread on this forum detailing a group of people who go on rescue missions to help wounded survivors. If you like hoarding shit and amassing wealth... well, I'd say make a base, but with the rampant hax going on it'd likely be a waste of time.IMO the best way to have fun after you're geared out is to group up with a couple friends and go hunting for other groups' bases and vehicles. I've got a pretty solid set-up for gear, and all I do is run around with my friends looking for bases with mass-dupe caches (250 .50 cal rifles, 250 gps/nightvision/rangefinders/etc.) and destroy them. The most fun I've had in DayZ was riding in a vehicle with three pals and driving right past another vehicle with strangers in it. There were 9 people involved in the fight that ensued, which went on for about 10 minutes. One of my friends survived. Myself, everyone else, and both vehicles were blown up. We ended up contacting the other team and joined their Ventrilo. Now we're friendly enemies who often hunt each other! We even give vehicles to the enemy team when they don't have any, and they reciprocate. The dynamic of vehicle battles... it's so much fun.One other thing let's say my one real life friend that plays is way the F up north and I'm on the coast. There needs to be a teleport option or something so that you can join your friends faster. Finding a server and then walking 75 miles is no fun.I strongly disagree with the "there needs to be" part. I agree that running forever is boring as hell, but having to physically locate friends typically forces city/zombie/player interaction. This is also what vehicles are for! Hellman66 1 Posted August 1, 2012 I agree thank you for some replies. That becoming an armed medic idea sounds cool lol. I definitely need some friends. Being alone and just getting wasted by random people repeatedly is stupid I'll work on finding a group.
weld 26 Posted August 1, 2012 Take as many risks as you can. Make an objective, then fulfill it. Make another one and abandon it. It's your objective, you don't have to complete it. Make your objective to find someone who has an objective for you, then fulfill it. Or kill them. Or give them an objective.Find a bus and start a bus line.Find a helicopter and medevac folks. Or land on them.Help everyone you see. Never fire a weapon. Fire a weapon once then give it away.Like Zombo.com, you can do anything you want.
