Hoozio 13 Posted August 1, 2012 So I'll start this post by saying I have been friendly for a long time, had the mindset of being friendly as I often like the good guy approach to games.I have had a few deaths due to PvP which are fair enough, not everybody is going to be friendly..This time however was different.I was in Cherno after a fresh respawn, had found a few bits, Alice Pack / AK, M1911 + Ammo etc with a few tools. I ran into the Supermarket to stock up on food/drink and see a guy in the doorway between shop/back room. He is being hounded by Zombies with the one's he is shooting from the back entrance, I see a couple coming very close to him from the shop area. I take aim, and pew-pew. Both zombies attacking him from behind are downed, I shout "Friendly, I'm not going to shoot you". He looks around, see's the dead zombies, I strafe left to right without firing reiterating that I am a friendly, he reloads, I should have seen what was coming, he unloads the entire clip in my direction after 10 seconds of me strafing and not shooting. My strafing saving me for a while, but I still get hit. He reloads again and backs in to the back area of the shop, I run towards him AK in hand and unload into his body/face. I don't think I can ever be friendly if this is the reaction even when I could have shot him before he saw me, saved him from zombies and shouted friendly. Dog eat dog... karateCHOP 0 Posted August 1, 2012 Man, I once saved a guy running down the street with a huge zombie train. I saw him coming and shouted that if he followed me I would save his ass. We both lead the train into a barn. He ran out the other side while I finished off all the zombies with my trusty Winchester. That should have been my first clue. Clear of all danger, I head out the front door of the barn, turn to my left and there he is. When I asked him why he took off and didn't help he answered with a shot in the face.Ever since the bandit skins have been removed almost everyone just shoots on sight. I have gone from meeting friendlies around every corner to shooting on sight for fear of death. In the rare case I can communicate before being seen I have had luck meeting friendly survivers. They are usually noobs who have a list of questions... <_<

KPopp 9 Posted August 1, 2012 I usually remain friendly until the other person shoots. I then laugh and cackle on the mic and make fun of them for their bad aim because honestly it seems as if 75% of the people I run into can not hit me. I then usually just run away as I talk shit. If the person talks shit back, then I come back and attempt to kill them :). Other than that I just let most people be.

*Regulator* Curt 93 Posted August 1, 2012 We are losing friendlies because people get butthurt for being killed. That's about itYes, and we're seeing people get wet because it's raining. It's not like its their fault for not liking death, it's an understandable reaction to a game.
Burn7 0 Posted August 1, 2012 Because people would rather not take the chance and lose their stuff. As George Carlin once said, "People love their stuff". They love their stuff far more than they love other people. Also, I don't know if anybody else has noticed... But since all the hackers have started raping everyone, the community has kind of imploded on itself and most EVERYONE has become a self-serving asshole. Lawlmonster 2 Posted August 1, 2012 It's a decision that everyone has to make. I wrote in another thread that personal morality does not cease to exist in virtual environments, despite anonymity: they are your actions, regardless of existence in a physical space. That being said, playing friendly comes with a certain sacrifice. You're probably going to die frequently. The exchange you get for reduced survival is knowing that you're doing the right thing, whether or not you want to believe the choice matters in an online medium. Personally, knowing that this is a game and that my character will die does not encourage me to murder everyone I see for survival or entertainments sake, but rather prompts me to be even more docile. If our characters are going to die, which they all will at some point, what does the frequency of occurrence matter? You might as well try to make a few friends, rather than shoot everyone who isn't in your ventrilo, teamspeak, or skype channel. If your character ceases to exist in exchange for an attempt at friendly interaction, who fucking cares? You can restart and do it all over again, or stoop to the level of KOS. NotYou 13 Posted August 1, 2012 I started nice, turned ugly, but today I had a neat experience. Was in a building on a server with only 8 people on it. So it's obviously easy to tell if someone's around if you see zeds. Someone came into the building singing a song."I'm friendly, I'm friendly, Zombies ate my family, I'm firendly, I'm firendly, please don't shoot me"Now I've had a guy yelling nooo don;t shoot I''m un-armed and friendly, while standing over some'ones corpse they just killed, but this guy was different.I had nice weapon Silenced M4 with scope and was watching him come up the stairs with my red dot on his head. When I heard teh song... I stopped... used in game voice and calmly told the guy if he wanted to live to leave the building... he backed away singing another song."I'm friendly, I'm friendly, you scared the crap out of me, I'm friendly, I'm friendly, please don't shoot me"I let him live.He had good gear from what I could see. Ghuile suit Coyote backpack, sniper rifle in hands, but he backed off to live another DayZ Day.I could have killed him just for his beans, but it actually felt good to let him leave peacefully. Also had a funny incident in Cherno market. I was inside looting, had NO weapon at all and in runs someone yelling "friendly, don't shoot" so I responded, "I won;t shoot you, I'm friendly also" of course as stated above I had no weapon to shoot with, but he just ran past me with a weapon in his hands and didn't shoot me.So I'm reconsidering the "friendly aspect" of the game.I no longer practice a strict KOS policy due to the events of two successive days of encountering other friendlies.
