Gas!

I think u should add areas wich are poisend with gas, and u have to have a gas mask to get through it. Or make that area moving, like a poison cloud. The reason why its there could be a chemical Bomb or a blowed up Nuclear Reactor (since there were no ppl who control the reactor) If you breath the poison in u are some kind off infected and cough blood or something, till you die, or take a pill wich will cure the illness.
