Visibility system - how it works?

Recommended Posts

Ok, those who play DayZ for more then 10 minutes know that there are icons on the right of the hud to show the noise you are making and your visibility.

So right now I have a question - are this icons displaying your visibility for both zeds and fellow players, or they only work for zeds?

In other words, is the distance, from which player can see me is different when I'm standing up, crouching or crawling? Or it will stay the same, limited only by server visibility settings?

These icons are only applicable to Zeds. Players can see you at any distance depending on weather, visibility, lighting, and PC specs (draw distance, mainly).

If you can see another player, chances are he'll be able to see you.

It's only inrelation to zeds I believe. After all you can see people that are prone on the edge of the view distance.

Aha, this explains how I was tracked in the woods during this night - looks like I completely misunderstood such a big aspect of the game. :)

If you prone, no zombie will see you ever.

Unless they trip over you.

As far as other players go, crawling is about as quiet as a group of Justin Bieber fans.

Other players will hear it from ages away so stealth is pretty useless on players in most any situation.
