Keep player position server-side, decimate server hopping and combat DC, foster server communities

Recommended Posts

If you server hop with server-side location system, you spawn at the coast. If you combat DC, you cannot relocate to a more advantageous spot with the help of a different server.

Currently, the only thing that ties you to a server is the vehicles and tents, and the vehicles are hoarded by close-knit private groups on every server. Unless you play this game with friends you made prior, you are on your own. And your actions are without consequence because of your anonymity. This is why we have shoot on sight deathmatch.

What this game is missing is community. Private hives have a community (and better anti-cheat protection as an added bonus). Why? Because you are tied to a single server and because side-channel is enabled. Community is good because your actions will have consequences. If you are an asshole you will get called out. If you are nice it won't go unnoticed, people will trust you more. Your name will have a reputation among your peers, your words will have more impact.

If you want to switch server with server-side positions you will keep your gear, but you will lose the trust or notoriety you built up and the security of knowing who's a bandit and who's not, and you will have to battle the new server's Bean Coastguard in order to get to safety. And believe me, they will be after more than your beans knowing that you might be fully geared out from another server. Heck, you'll probably only be able to safely switch servers under the cover of night, giving time of day meaningful purpose while we are at it.

Seen this suggestion alot :)

I do agree on this, but i have to say the servers and the mod have to be more stable first

The central hive is only for now, anyways. Rocket regards it as priceless for gathering information for the development of DayZ. In the future I imagine, when he's happy with all the data there is, we'll get these servers with their own databases, and we'll be free of all of the above

Well, if I log into my main server. Go to the NWAF, pick up weapons + ammo/gear. Then switch servers and spawn on the beach, then start killing people until it gets to hot i ditch. I can then relog to my main server and be back in the NWAF and can go looking for more ammo/gear. Switch to another server.... ect.

This would mean players could in a way beat the entire system of running to get to the most pvp areas and bring the best weapons. With little chance of any real issues.

If there was a check that offered some way to know if you've killed players on that other server you switched to, then when you logged into your main server again it would force you to be in that same city. Then people couldn't use this feature as a way to get ammo/gear by quick hoping back and forth for gear/kills.

So if we log into a new server we are back on the coast? Wat? How about no. Servers are constantly crashing and restarting. And me and my friends play on different ones and swap if we are going to play together. While this would fix those problems somewhat, it's in no way a solution that would cause a lot more problems.

You could just wipe the slate and clear all position coordinates if the ID of the server you just joined doesn't match with your previous server. Back at the beach even if you switch back. :)

I honestly wouldn't mind some server rivalry really, servers raiding each other for supplies. An outside threat would only serve to unite a server community even more. And the drama would be delicious lol. You would of course have to limit admin rights or this would fall flat on its face.
