Question: What does Map On mean/do?

Sorry for a question that I'm sure has been posted here many a time, however the server search function does not seem to work for me for some reason.

Does it mean that you can use the map? Or that you show up on the map (every server I have been on has my location being displayed with a blue dot)? Will it display other players, this is a veteran server I am on that has this option and I don't want it to show the other players, their location, or my location. Seems like it would ruin the fun knowing if other players are close or something. The server in question is US 302.

If it's a veteran server,

It's most likely that there won't be any blue dots on the map.

There is a blue dot which represents me titled "Survivor." I don't necessarily mind this, but I just want to be sure it won't display other players or me to other players. Do you know if it will?

If the blue marker is on for your current location, it will most likely also show orange dots for zombies and blue dots for recently seen players.

You cannot use it to spot someone who you haven't "seen" but it might give a small advantage.

It won't show up in other people's map unless you're like a few meters close.

Although if you shoot a gun, you will show up on other people's map as an orange marker titled 'UNKNOWN'(with a range of course. 500m?)

Also vehicles will show up on your map even if they are like 500m away.

It will only be displayed to others if you are spotted with their own eyes, and even then it only displays where you were last seen.
