A bug lost me a backpack?

Okay so I'm not new to the game but I'm still learning...

I managed to find my way to the castle. I have a pretty big backpack (not sure on the name, holds 3 rows of stuff) I climb to the top and what do I see? A change of clothes. I haven't come across clothes before so think why not try them on... So after putting them on I go into 3rd person to check them out and what do I see? My backpack's gone. I have a little pouch style backpack that holds 6 items instead. I change them again but nothing happens. I look around and I see no backpack on the floor. To rub salt into the wound I also lost 3 cans of pepsi, 2 tins of food and a few magazines. (that were in the backpack) Has anyone else come across this and is there a way to rectify it? Did I do something wrong?
