Bring back player skins: Murders vs. Bandit Kills

Recommended Posts

Okay so I had an idea about the whole player killing PvP issues that are running rampant across this forum.

While I agree that there's no easy solution, here's one suggestion I'm proposing:

Step 1: Bring back the bandit skins.

Step 2: Start tracking murders & bandit kills by GUID persistently, not by individual in-game life.

Step 3: Have the "humanity level" go both ways. i.e., killing bandits will raise your humanity level, just as committing murders decreases it.

Step 4: Introduce an entirely new skin, maybe something military or MP (military police) themed, that is earned when you have a high enough humanity level.

The justification: This will once-and-for-all solve the "easy-way-to-tell-if-someone's-friendly" issue that's been discussed endlessly.

Feel free to discuss.

Unfortunatley, I don't want to appear as a bandit because I had to kill a few people after getting ambushed or defending my tent. It's too much of a grey area. So, no, I don't want to see them back in.

Yup, exactly. They're running rampant across the forum not the actual game. In the game, only ~16% of deaths result from PvP. It's all a bunch of forum drama and nothing more. We don't need to "solve" PvP. We need to support and encourage it as it is one of the most compelling aspects of the game.

Step 1: Bring back the bandit skins.

No. They were removed for a very good reason, and murder rates are down since they were taken out.

Step 3: Have the "humanity level" go both ways. i.e., killing bandits will raise your humanity level, just as committing murders decreases it.

That already happens.

Step 4: Introduce an entirely new skin, maybe something military or MP (military police) themed, that is earned when you have a high enough humanity level.

Stop asking the game to do your work for you. If you want to know who is friendly and who is not, go figure it out yourself. It's not that hard to tell. Bullets are a universal indicator of agression.

Also, a system that puts the power of identification in the hands of players would be more authentic and immersive, less magical.

Dev team are looking at a more subtle way to distinguish between a friendly and a murderer - have a look for Rocket's suggestion.

I believe they are not keen/willing to go back to this scenario.

Bandits kill other bandits too. A bandit could kill a shit tonne of people and have neutral or positive humanity.

Sounds better than the old system though.
