Character retention - Machine fingerprint?

How exactly do the servers handle character retention.

With Windows 8 RTM set to hit MSDN soon I was wondering if I should expect to lose my character when I do a clean install of the new OS.

I don't know the specifics on what identifiers the servers use from the client so any help would be great.

No, your character is saved VIA the persistent server (On the hive if you will)

So when you reinstall, your character is as it was left (unless there was a wipe)

Ok, just realized that the CD-Key is the fingerprint (per the message when creating a character haha) so that's good.

also remember that everything else is saved on the hive server.
