Noob question

So this question is kinda nooby but how the hell do you equip weapons or use items? I found a hatchet and a hunting knife but I don't know how to equip them i've spent like 30 minutes button mashing but I don't know how will it work. And some asshole teleported me somewhere base good thing that I didn't die but I have a broken bone so I couldn't walk, now im spending my time crawling. What item can I use to heal this or will it heal by itself?

Edit: Oh crap some asshole teleported me again it looks like a military base or some sort, oh god I could hear shooting and theeeen im dead.

1. You can't equip the knife. Just the hatchet, right click it and "remove from toolbelt".

2. With the Morph-autoinjector you can heal a broken bone.
