Excellent First Experience

Recommended Posts

So I started my first life in DayZ yesterday evening with two other real-life friends a little scared of what may await me.

While downloading Arma 2, I was browsing the New Player board and reading horror stories of players spending their first hour of the game constantly dying, having zombies spawning in their faces, and being unable to find any sort of weapon.

I guess I may just be one of the lucky ones?

Although it was night time, I managed to meet up with my friend relatively quickly on the shore. He had never played DayZ either, though it wasn't difficult to find eachother considering we had a friend with 2 or 3 lives of experience with us on Skype. As we walked the coast we came across another new player named Paul. Now, I know that banditry runs rampant in DayZ and I admit I was incredibly hesitant to trust Paul when he came running over to say hello (especially considering he didn't have a microphone), but we told him we planned to meet our other friend in Electro and he tagged along the whole way not saying a word.

After evading some Zombies, bandaging a few wounds, we made our way into Electro. Almost immediately I found a Makarov and two clips. I turned to Paul and said, "Paul, I have a Makarov in my hands right now. See how I'm not shooting you? That means you can trust me." To my suprise Paul did indeed have a microphone, and it turns out he was on his first life as well.

Without firing any rounds, Paul, my friend and I quickly met up with our more experienced buddy in Electro's church and proceeded to loot the surrounding area. Within 25 minutes my veteran friend had a Makarov, newfriend had a Lee Enfield (Dinnerbell) and Paul had a 12-gauge shotgun and a fully loaded Revolver.

For the rest of our session we survived cooperatively, and to my surprise not once did our friend Paul show any signs of aggression. We shared the food and drinks we found, communicated well and evaded a few other survivors. There was a nasty bit where we saw a survivor get mauled to death by over 13 zombies while we were on a hill, after which we had to deal with the angry buggers. I did accidently break Paul's leg at one point with a Hatchet, though we had just looted a Hospital and we shared our medical supplies to get him back to full health.

With the sun rising over Electro we said our goodbyes and I logged off with 11 zombie kills, a Makarov with 4 or 5 clips, a hatchet, Czech bag and a little faith in my fellow survivors.

I know it's a really long post but I want new players to know not all first experiences with DayZ are incredibly negative. Just try to get some knowledge of how the game works before hand (such as how to evade zombies).

So cute, so innocent...

Nothing a good shot or two with a DMR or CZ550 can't cure...

You guys are great.

I'm surprised Paul didn't open fire, although I was protecting him from a Zombie with my hatchet.

When he went down he immediately asked for help instead of throwing accusations or just plain shooting.
