How well do vehicles work without engine parts?

So yesterday I found a vehicle and I managed to fix most of it up, but I couldn't find any engine parts. I realized that you could still drive even without engine parts, so I hid the vehicle in the woods. I'm really afraid to drive it much more in case it blows up or something. I haven't found any engine parts yet though. So I was wondering, how well do vehicles work without engine parts?

Seriously get engine parts I made that mistake some guy stole it and blew it up while I was looking for them. :L

I found a ATV without engine parts once, driven it into a bush(Was trying to hide it) and blew up. Realistic as sh*t.
