Can I save one character, and use a new character?

Recommended Posts

I am doing a Let's Play with my friend, and it's turning out quite well. However, I really want to play this game on my own time, and not waiting for him every 3 or so days to do another recording and be able to play the game.

Is there a way that I could backup my "Let's Play character" and use a new one for now and then be able to go back to the "Let's Play" one at any time? or no?

You must buy a second copy of Operation Arrowhead/Combined Operations, and either dual-boot with two separate windows installations, install ARMA2CO per-user on two windows user accounts and log off/on to switch, or follow a guide for switching ARMA CD keys using RegEdit hijinks.

Here's Sacriel's guide for method three as it's the most convenient:

No way to have two accounts with a single copy of Arma2CO & DayZ.

EDIT: RegEdit Step-by-Step Guide by DocTolly. Tip some beans his way if you go for it. Good luck.

Well that's a shame... I understand the reasons why this would not be such a great feature, but I think the benefits would outweigh it. Why can't they tie profiles to the serial keys? I believe your profiles are synced via the Steam Cloud, so if you had to reformat for whatever reason, you'd still have your old profiles. Each profile = new character.

I guess it's so much more complex than that. My programming stops at Java :P

Probably not possible in the current engine. Your unique GUID is tied to your CD key, so one CD key equals one DayZ GUID.

It's been discussed often enough. Maybe possible in a standalone version of DayZ further down the road. Sorry.

The RegEdit solution shouldn't be too difficult if you follow the instructions carefully. Not personally tested but seems to work just fine for Sacriel.

errr no not unless you use a private server with private hive or have more than one cdkey. It's worth reading readmes and so on when you install a game. If you had read even the most basic of information on DayZ you would know this instead of adding to the clutter of the forum

And you think somehow this would be a good feature? Ummm no you obviously don't understand how or why DayZ works this way. If we were able to have multiple characters basically DayZ becomes another game with no consequences. If we were to have the game work as you suggest then it would die very quickly....not going to happen. THANKFULLY

Profiles and steam cloud have nothing to do with it LOL
