Since its just DayZ that loads slow, my guess is terrible data/object management, not to mention the bottleneck of the hive every time you join a server...

Think about this, ~150k people per day playing this game, each server constantly has to request and store their information to the "hive" MySQL database. Thus MILLIONS of SQL Queries are happening daily.

Rocket does not get paid for this mod.

The hive is probably stored at host gator for $4 a month. :D

Either way, for the amount of traffic the hive gets Rocket would need a pretty good load balancer/servers in place to keep character creation requests from taking a long time. *Good* Servers don't come cheap. if he had 4 min-spec Virtualized linux servers and a load balancer from rackspace thats $60+ per month not including additional storage/bandwidth.... for min spec servers and a load balancer.

Do the math, one guy isn't going to foot the bill to get rid of the hive's bottleneck unless he has a lot of extra cash or has investors of some sort.

So yeah, the hive load time, combined with downloading all the random object locations etc from the server + your computers limitations = long loading times.

if your computer isn't made from coconuts, you join a good low ping server, and the hive isn't too busy... bingo bango you're in like flynn
