Steam sale broke this game.

Recommended Posts

Okay, title may be a bit too provocative, but still...

First things first, I love this game. I love surviving in it, and I live dying in it. It has this amazing atmosphere that can't be compared to any other game.

I love this community, I love to read these forums and there are some really smart people.

But honestly, I think Steam sale broke this game. Atleast for some time.

See, if you are gamer, you propably have read about DayZ. Everyone says it's amazing. Everywhere.

If you keep yourself updated about game industry, even a little bit, you know about it. And what happens when it goes to

superspecialultrasteamsale? Everyone buys it. And I mean EVERYONE.

Okay, let's get this out of the way. I DON'T HATE BANDITS. I have nothing against them. I actually think that they add to the overall experience.

I love to look supplies in Cherno, or try to find some awesome loot in NW Airfield, hear the distant gunshot and know that I'm in danger. I love those standouts where both

groups are too scared to move and just stare at the bushes where those so called "enemies" were seen 10 minutes ago.

But now that everyone CoD kid bought Arma II and roams in cities of Chernarus, I feel like banditry has lost it's meaning.

This is not based on fact, but to my own observations. To these hyperactive kids, killing survivors means nothing. Literally.

I honestly think that these "players" kill only because you can. There's no banditry, there's only 12 year old with his gun. Who shoots at anyone in sight.

I repeat, I don't hate bandits. But I hate 12 year old kids with rifles.

I don't want to change banditry in DayZ, I don't want any debuffs on them or any bandit skins or anything like that. This game is about choice, so I want to let it be that way.

I'll guess this situation pretty much solves itself after some time when all these kids return to newest CoD or something. Just wanted to get some opinions on this and solve my thoughts after 2 rage quits.

What you are saying is what a few people in the BIS forums say about the entire DayZ community. Referring to you guys as the "CoD kidz".

I agree, but they'll get bored soon of not being able to kill multiple people in seconds.

If you want some fun banditry head North, it tends to better PvP action up there as COD kiddies can't live that far up.

The game has been on the steams top-sale list for weeks, if not months.

I honesty havent noticed any difference at all when it comes to getting shot, thats usually what happens if someone spots you first and you have a decent wep.

Murder rates and banditry rates have gone down since the Steam sale.

Also the game was a top seller on Steam for well over a month before the sale even happened.

So, no. None of what you said is true.

Sorry to rain on your little "gamer class warfare" parade.

Sales will always attract some unwanted customers. That's just how it works. But me and my friend both bought the game during the Steam sale, and we are far from n00bs

Well, when the mod first came out, I rarely, if ever, ran into bandits. Everyone I met welcomed me and let me play with them.

Now... Well.. Things are different...

There is a reason why 12 year olds are not allowed to vote or carry guns around...

They can carry guns around, just not in public places. :D

Too bad DayZ was on the top selling list for about two months even before the steam sale.

Just saying.

Yes, because a bandit also appeared as a bandit. There was a visible 'you can't be trusted' aspect to it. Now my friends and I kill on sight rather than worry about being backstabbed.

Edited for clarity.

I appeared to be a bandit? All I had was a pistol and some beans, with no zombie or player kills under my belt.

Shooting on sight is justified because the game itself has broken mechanics. Why should you be able to spot another player on a map? Once they remove the ability to see other players on the in game map then shooting on sight will slowly become idiotic. It is smarter to hide, wait, conserve ammo. Unless you are a misanthrope and like shooting people for fun.

I rarely see other people on the map and only when I'm beside them to begin with. Also, I don't know if anybody else suffers from it, but there is a long lag between pressing M to turn my map off and the actual game screen returning.

Playing with other people worked a lot better for me than playing solo back in Mid April.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings dude.

Maybe bad luck then? Before Steam sales I got shot only two or three times, after sales I've died only because of these so called bandits.

I played a few months ago. There have always been bandits.

I personally liked the bandit skin, so I wanted to be a bandit.

It was like a bandit reward.

I liked the bandit skin also! I was saddened a little when it was removed. :/

I think if you are mad at the 12 year old COD/ spawn killers or people that just kill for thrills and not to loot etc you should read this thread:

http://dayzmod.com/f...-lawless-lands/

Its part of our new group that is fast growing to try and tackle some of the issues you have pointed out.

If you are interested in what has been said there it would be a good idea to leave a reply or contact oldtribe who posted the thread and maybe you will find some sort of piece of mind fighting alongside our group (I dare not say clan, its more of a group of similiar thinking inderviduals)

Most people these days use Steam to buy their games, I fail to see what you're getting at.

Dumb thread really. So much whine and hate. You whine because of the increase of players around you. You "scared" ?

The so called "CoD kids" is actualy players that were there from the very beginning, and no where near like a real "CoD kid". Take the example players like Sacriel42 and Puddn (which both streams on twitch.tv btw all the time) Really great guys. They fucking shoot you on sight, that is just what they find fun really. Running around picking up cans of beans from town to town is just not fun.

True a lot of people use steam to DL their games.

The only reason I used Bohemia's store was to support them more directly and for easier modding. If that hadn't been the case I probably would have used steam just like all my other games.

I heard about this game from mate before the steam sale was even on the cards, do a bit of research along with playing other games too. A few weeks later I'm reminded of dayz by a different mate, think about for a few days more research, thinking logically I know of steam sale and wait for a cheaper price to minimise my own costs, see arma II on steam sale, I buy it, so what? I was probably going to buy it anyway. I chose to wait till it was a tad cheaper, as would anyone.

So yeah I'm relatively new to dayz, my guys been alive for 3 days now, I enjoy it, its great, yeah hard learning curve at the start. I was first shot by a whom I assume was a bandit in electro, also shot by a sniper somewhere in electro, ( I know now to avoid cherno/electro ) But overall Its a great game, I class myself as a survivor, am not interested in shooting every one I see. But its widely said when asking mates "in dayz don't trust anyone" so what are new guys to think? shoot this guy? or get shot in the back?

To make my point clear, I don't hate 12 year old kids, I hate the way most of them play shooters. Like CoD. Some of you guys seem to think I complain about banditry. But it's not that. It just feels stupid that there are players who just shoot me and don't even care to check what I carry. That's not banditry to me.

No, I'm happy that this mod gets all the attention it deserves. I just don't like to way it turns this into Call Of Duty: Modern Zombie Survival Warfare.
